(Senior) Animal Technologist Translational Pharmacology Animal Unit

Your new position

You will become part of Animal Unit, which consists of 4 animal technologists and 7 student assistants, within Translational Pharmacology – a team of more than 30 people, including scientists, laboratory technicians, animal technologists and student assistants. We have our own animal facility for rodents and laboratories for follow-up analyses. In our daily work with the animals, we place great emphasis on the 3Rs, ensuring a high ethical standard. You will help care for our mice and rats and take part in conducting in-vivo pharmacological experiments as a contribution to our preclinical research projects. You should be willing to take on a few weekend/holiday shifts during the year – we operate on a rotation scheme, so the workload is manageable.

We offer exciting responsibilities:

• Contributing to high-quality in vivo studies in rodents, including protocols, planning, execution and documentation
• Care and supervision of the animals, with a “Culture of Care” mindset
• Operating our indirect calorimetry equipment (TSE) and HM-2 feeding system
• Ensuring good collaboration and communication within and across departments to maintain speed and quality in project work
• Ensuring compliance with animal experimentation legislation and contributing to new 3R initiatives

Your profile

We are looking for someone with an open and positive attitude, who is proactive and takes ownership of tasks. You collaborate well with others but can also work independently. You have a genuine interest in in-vivo research with focus on the 3Rs in your daily work. You are willing to help wherever needed in the team, and to go the extra mile when necessary to get the job done. An experienced animal technologist is preferred, but newly qualified candidates are also welcome to apply. You must hold a FELASA course, EU Function AD or equivalent to apply for this position.

• Cage changing, washing of cages/bottles and cleaning of animal room
• Administration of test substances (i.v., s.c., i.p., i.m., p.o.)
• Preparation of blood sample tubes, buffers, etc.
• High-quality sampling and handling of blood and tissue samples
• Comfortable with spoken and written English (the company language is English)
