Brunswick County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for a Child Support Agent II to work with our Child Support Team.  We are a forward thinking, creative organization that truly believes in treating others as we want to be treated.  We are looking for the right people to join our Team.
 
An Child Support Agent II maintains a large caseload requiring the establishment of paternity, support and enforcement of support obligations in local child support cases.  
 
Job responsibilities include:
  • Interviewing and explaining the program to clients and absent parents.
  • Locating absent parents, establishing paternity and support obligations voluntarily and through court procedures.
  • Enforcing court orders using wage withholdings, orders to show cause, registrations, URESA/UIFSA procedure, and other legal methods available.
  • Preparing complaints, motions, notices, petitions, civil summons, and court orders under the general direction of the IV-D attorney.
  • Preparing cases and clients for court, accompanying attorney to court and testifying as required.
  • Monitoring support payments received and the distribution of same.
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of child support policies and legal mandates
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • General computer knowledge and ability to learn and navigate various programs and databases
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and reassess as priorities change in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to de-escalate upset customers / remain calm in stressful situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
 Must be available to work during emergency situations.
  • Bachelor’s degree and six months experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, human resources, law enforcement or closely related degree and two years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or

  • Graduation from high school and three years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or 

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pound of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
