Description
At GE Appliances, a Haier company, we come together to make “good things, for life.” As the fastest-growing appliance company in the U.S., we’re powered by creators, thinkers and makers who believe that anything is possible and that there’s always a better way. We believe in the power of our people and in giving them the freedom to explore, discover and build good things, together.
The GE Appliances philosophy, backed by three simple commitments defines the way we work, invent, create, do business, and serve our communities: we come together, we always look for a better way, and we create possibilities.
Interested in joining us on our journey?
The Clothes Care Technology Structures Center of Excellence (COE) Senior Design Engineer plays a critical role in the design, development, validation, and implementation of innovative, reliable, and cost-effective washers, dryers, and combination laundry products for GE Appliances, a Haier company. This position provides technical ownership of components and subsystems from concept through production. The Senior Design Engineer will apply strong engineering fundamentals, analytical methods, hands-on experimentation, and sound engineering judgment to develop robust solutions that balance consumer performance, quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and schedule.
The role requires close collaboration within Technology and with Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Suppliers, Commercial teams, and other cross-functional partners. Successful candidates will demonstrate technical depth, curiosity, ownership, and the ability to independently solve complex and ambiguous engineering problems while helping develop the technical capability of less experienced engineers.

Essential Responsibilities
Serve as a senior design engineer within the Clothes Care Technology Structures COE, developing optimized component and subsystem solutions that balance performance, quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and schedule.
Maintain engineering ownership of assigned components and subsystems from concept through production implementation, including development, design, analysis, prototyping, validation, documentation, release, and manufacturing support.
Execute projects through the New Product Introduction (NPI) and C-Change processes, including Material Cost Take Out (MCTO), Cost of Quality (COQ), reliability, and production-support projects.
Apply engineering fundamentals and first-principles thinking to frame complex problems, develop hypotheses, identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and implement robust technical solutions.
Develop and evaluate multiple design concepts using analytical methods, engineering judgment, simulation, rapid prototyping, experimentation, and hands-on testing.
Identify technical risks early and develop appropriate analysis, testing, and mitigation plans to ensure robust designs.
Utilize engineering tools and methods including DFMEA, P-diagrams, free-body diagrams, tolerance analysis, statistical analysis, and FEA, as appropriate, to understand and mitigate design risk.
Create and modify 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Creo, including appropriate application of GD&T and dimensional controls.
Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis, including the use of 3DCS, to ensure component fit, assembly capability, and robust high-volume manufacturing.
Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and complete required engineering documentation and product releases.
Design plastic and/or metal components with consideration for tooling, material selection, manufacturing processes, assembly, dimensional variation, reliability, and cost.
Partner with suppliers to evaluate material selection, manufacturing processes, tooling strategies, design feasibility, quality, cost, and production capability.
Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Systems Engineering, Commercial, and other cross-functional teams from early concept development through production implementation.
Develop validation strategies and test plans that efficiently evaluate design requirements and technical risks.
Design and execute experiments, develop appropriate test fixtures and instrumentation, analyze results, and clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations.
Apply statistical methods to distinguish meaningful changes in product performance and manufacturing capability from normal variation.
Evaluate GE Appliances and competitive products to identify design approaches, technologies, manufacturing methods, and performance opportunities that can strengthen future products.
Support development and execution of technology roadmaps for critical structural technologies that provide competitive advantage.
Serve as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced engineers, helping develop their capabilities in engineering fundamentals, structured problem solving, design practices, technical documentation, and project execution.
Provide technical support during prototype builds, pilot production, factory implementation, and post-launch issue resolution as required.
Clearly communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, recommendations, and project status to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
