Position Overview

The Marketing Manager, Wexner Medical Center Advancement serves as the primary marketing and communications partner for Wexner Medical Center Advancement donor experience initiatives, developing and supporting integrated marketing and communication plans that strengthen donor engagement, stewardship, recognition, and philanthropic relationship-building. In collaboration with donor experience partners, brings marketing strategy, audience insights, performance data, and advancement communications expertise to donor engagement planning, providing recommendations and execution leadership that advance stakeholder-defined objectives and improve outcomes across the donor journey.

Working independently and in close partnership with development officers, stewardship professionals, donor experience leaders, clinicians, researchers, Advancement colleagues, and other stakeholders, the Marketing Manager recommends communication strategies, aligns stakeholders around project objectives, and manages complex donor-focused marketing and communications initiatives from planning through execution. The position ensures donor-centered storytelling, stewardship communications, event-related messaging, and engagement opportunities align with Ohio State's advancement priorities, audience needs, donor experience standards, and institutional brand expectations. Working with the Lead Writer, the Marketing Manager is a key contributor to the strategic repurposing of grateful patient, impact storytelling and other relevant content. This role also serves as a steward of institutional brand integrity, ensuring all communications and engagement initiatives align with The Ohio State University and Wexner Medical Center brand standards.

The Marketing Manager serves as a strategic consultant, experienced marketing subject matter resource, and relationship builder, connecting AMC expertise with the needs of the Wexner Medical Center fundraising and donor engagement ecosystem while using professional judgment to recommend practical, audience-centered solutions.  This is an experienced individual contributor role that exercises independent judgment within established Advancement, WMC and university guidelines, manages complex projects and stakeholder relationships, and contributes recommendations that support donor engagement, fundraising communications, and continuous improvement of marketing and communication effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities

50% - Serve as the dedicated marketing strategy and communications partner to the Wexner Medical Center Donor Experience team, providing consultation on communication priorities, audience needs, and donor engagement objectives.  Build and maintain effective working relationships with donor experience, stewardship, development, principal gifts, WMC Advancement leadership, and Wexner Medical Center partners to support coordinated donor engagement communications.  Consult on donor engagement opportunities and recommend marketing and communication strategies that support philanthropic priorities, stewardship objectives, and donor relationship-building goals.  Represent Advancement Marketing and Communications in donor experience planning, strategy discussions, and cross-functional initiatives; help align stakeholders around communication approaches, project objectives, and agreed-upon deliverables.  Identify opportunities to improve donor journeys through coordinated communication strategies, audience-focused messaging, segmentation-informed approaches, and improved engagement touchpoints.Manage multiple complex donor experience marketing and communication projects simultaneously from strategy development through execution, using independent judgment to prioritize work, resolve routine project issues, and keep deliverables on track.Coordinate internal AMC resources, Wexner Medical Center partners, and external vendors as needed to support assigned project deliverables, timelines, quality expectations, and stakeholder communication.Establish project timelines, deliverables, and communication workflows.  Facilitate collaboration and consensus-building among stakeholders while balancing competing priorities, deadlines, donor needs, and Advancement objectives.  Ensure assigned Wexner Medical Center donor experience initiatives align with broader WMC and Advancement brand, engagement, fundraising, and donor experience objectives.  Monitor project progress, identify risks or barriers, and recommend practical solutions to support timely execution and effective stakeholder alignment.

45% - Develop strategic marketing and communications plans that support donor cultivation, stewardship, recognition, and engagement efforts.Create audience-centered communication approaches informed by donor interests, giving history, engagement objectives, segmentation considerations, and available performance insights.  Partner with donor experience leaders to map communication touchpoints across the donor lifecycle and recommend opportunities to strengthen message consistency, timing, channel strategy, and donor experience outcomes.  Collaborate with writers, designers, digital specialists, Wexner Medical Center partners, and other contributors to develop stewardship materials, donor impact stories, leadership communications, and other donor-focused content that demonstrates the impact of philanthropy across patient care, research, education, and community outreach.  Recommend communication channels, content strategies, engagement tactics, and sequencing approaches that strengthen donor relationships and support defined donor engagement objectives.Support the development of personalized leadership communication strategies for key audiences, including major and principal gift donors, by aligning message purpose, audience needs, timing, and appropriate channels.  Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of assigned donor engagement and communication initiatives against stated objectives, available metrics, and stakeholder feedback.  Analyze communication performance data, engagement metrics, and donor feedback to identify trends, opportunities, and recommendations for improving communication strategy and donor experience.  Use donor feedback and data insights to refine communication strategies, improve donor experiences, and inform future marketing recommendations.  Share recommendations, lessons learned, and best practices with Advancement and Wexner Medical Center partners to support continuous improvement and consistent donor-centered communication practices.  Apply Ohio State and Wexner Medical Center brand standards, Advancement messaging priorities, and donor experience expectations when reviewing or guiding assigned communications deliverables.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience in marketing, communications, donor relations, stewardship, advancement, healthcare marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience managing integrated communication and marketing projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and managing complex relationships.
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable marketing and communication plans.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six (6) years of experience in marketing, communications, donor relations, stewardship, advancement, healthcare marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education advancement, fundraising, donor relations, or stewardship.
  • Background working within academic medicine, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of donor experience, customer experience, constituent engagement, or relationship marketing principles.
  • Past implementation of audience segmentation and data-informed communication strategies.
  • Facility with CRM and advancement systems, including Blackbaud CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Experience creating impact storytelling and stewardship communications for philanthropic audiences.
