We bring service with passion, loyalty with purpose, and create experiences that genuinely connect—delivering quality, value, and memorable stays across 1,000+ properties in eight countries (and counting).
What this role is all about
Creating exceptional guest experiences starts with helping guests and team members feel safe, welcomed, and supported at all times. As a Security Officer, you’ll help protect guests, employees, visitors, and hotel property while delivering professional, service-focused hospitality throughout the hotel.
This role is perfect for someone who stays calm under pressure, enjoys helping people, and thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
If you’re dependable, observant, and passionate about hospitality and safety — we’d love to meet you.
What you’ll be doing

- Monitor hotel activity, guest interactions, operational areas, and security systems to identify and respond to safety or security concerns promptly and professionally.
- Respond to guest concerns, emergencies, alarms, disturbances, accidents, and operational incidents according to hotel procedures and safety standards.
- Assist guests, visitors, and team members with directions, property access, safety concerns, and general hospitality support as needed.
- Monitor surveillance systems, access control systems, radios, and operational security equipment throughout shifts.
- Maintain accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, operational updates, and security documentation according to hotel procedures.
- Support emergency response procedures including evacuations, medical incidents, fire alarms, weather events, and operational disruptions as required.
- Coordinate closely with Front Office, Engineering, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and hotel leadership teams to support seamless hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
- Support VIP arrivals, conferences, weddings, group business, and special events as needed.
- Follow hotel operational procedures, OSHA regulations, fire safety standards, and company security policies at all times.
- Help foster a safe, welcoming, professional, and guest-focused atmosphere aligned with Sonesta’s People People philosophy.
- Any other duties as assigned.
What great looks like
- Previous security, hospitality, hotel operations, law enforcement, military, emergency response, or guest service experience preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a calm and professional presence.
- Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions during emergency or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety, operational awareness, and guest satisfaction.
- Knowledge of security procedures, emergency response protocols, surveillance systems, and hotel safety practices preferred.
- Positive attitude with a dependable, service-focused, and team-oriented mindset.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, security certifications, or law enforcement training preferred where applicable.
- Flexible availability including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and operational coverage as needed.
- A passion for hospitality, teamwork, professionalism, guest engagement, and creating safe and welcoming guest experiences.
