Description

Eaton’s IS VEH VGGP division is currently seeking a Garage Services Technician. This is a full time, on-site position based at our Marshall, MI facility.

The Garage Service Technician plays a critical role in supporting vehicle development, testing, and validation activities at the Eaton Proving Grounds. This position is responsible for maintaining, modifying, inspecting, troubleshooting a diverse fleet of test vehicles and equipment used in research and development activities.

The ideal candidate possesses exceptional mechanical aptitude, a solid understanding of automotive electrical systems, and hands-on experience with vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and testing environments. Experience supporting vehicle testing programs, instrumentation installations, data acquisition systems, and vehicle dynamics evaluations is highly desired.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $69000 - $101000 a year.

Eaton announced, on June 11, 2026, the intent to combine its Mobility Group (including both the Vehicle and eMobility segments) with a new company. We expect to complete this process by the end of the first half of 2027. The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton's plans, programs and practices. ## What you’ll do:

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections and troubleshooting on test vehicles, support equipment and proving grounds assets.
  • Setup test bench and vehicles to support vehicle dynamics test activities. This will include hardware build & installation, wire harness fabrication & installation and instrumentation setup.
  • Consult with engineers on interpretation of work requests, results, solving product performance problems and sample builds.
  • Operate diagnostics tools, scan equipment and test instrumentation to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with vehicle dynamics testing activities during drivetrain and chassis evaluations.
  • Develop new & update existing standardized procedures.
  • Proficient use of inspection hand tools and equipment.
  • Study and develop new technical skills and methods.
  • Thorough documentation skills of work performed. Documents all work with completed test setup sheets, calibration records, photos, drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Works with stakeholders to create product specifications in area of expertise.
  • Applies computer literacy in the areas of Word, Excel, Outlook, test equipment control, data acquisition and analysis software.
  • Ability to function in a high stress environment including: meeting aggressive deadlines, direct customer oversight, schedule / priority changes.
  • Complies with and provides ideas for improvement on the policies, procedures, and expectations outlined by Eaton’s Management System for the Environment, Safety, Security, and Health (MESH) and Quality Management Systems.

## Qualifications:

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering Technology or related field from an accredited institution
  • ASE Certified mechanic/equivalent certification OR a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a technical, laboratory, motor sports setting
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in diagnosing vehicle systems

  • No relocation is available for this position. Candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of Marshall MI. (Active Duty Military service members are exempt from this geographical limitation)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology
  • Demonstrated vehicle dynamics experience
  • Experience with conducting limit vehicle tests & evaluations

  • Ability to complete limit handling driver training.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate test equipment, machine hydraulics, data acquisition and inspection equipment.
  • A high degree of mechanical aptitude. Demonstrated fabrication proficiency including lathe, mill, welding.
  • Proficient vehicle mechanical & electrical skills – assembly, troubleshooting, modification.
  • Strong communication skills – oral / presentation & written.
  • Detail oriented and sense of urgency in completing tasks accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Effective use of current technology along with the learning and application of new technology.
  • Basic mathematics, graph reading and calculations are required.
  • Consistency in work methods. Executes tasks in a repeatable fashion.
  • Proficient with installation & setup of vehicle instrumentation including torque wheels, brake pressure, inertial measurement systems, Anthony Best robot systems and towable soft target systems.
  • Proficient with vehicle data acquisition setup including CAN network configuration & Vector tools, Vbox and Motec.
  • Working with ambiguity. Ability to analyze deliverable and determine path to achievement.
