Description
Your Opportunity
At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
At Charles Schwab, exceptional client experiences start with exceptional people. We are looking for an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable Senior User Experience Designer (individual contributor) to join Schwab's User Experience team. In this role, you will help shape the digital experiences that power how clients move money, make payments, and manage their financial lives, creating experiences that feel useful, consistent, modern, and distinctly Schwab.
This is an individual contributor role for a designer who is comfortable moving between the big picture and the smallest interaction details. You will independently lead work from problem definition through execution, bring clarity to ambiguity, and partner across Experience Design, Content, Product, Engineering, Research, and other cross-functional partners to turn complex challenges into scalable solutions across web and mobile.
The work matters because millions of clients rely on Schwab to make decisions about their financial lives. We are deeply focused on creating the best possible experiences for them. We are equally committed to building an environment where people support one another, share ideas openly, and help each other do the best work of their careers. That culture of care, trust, and collaboration is modeled by our leaders and carried forward by every member of the team.
Why this role matters now
Client expectations are changing quickly. Mobile experiences, personalization, AI, and new interaction models are reshaping how people expect to engage with financial services. This role will help Schwab respond thoughtfully by connecting client needs, business priorities, product strategy, and experience design into a clear and scalable vision for what comes next.
The team you'll join
You will join a creative, supportive group of designers and content strategists who care deeply about clients, craft, and one another. We challenge ideas and value the people who bring them. We share work early, give direct and constructive feedback, celebrate progress, and step in when a teammate needs help. You will also work closely with partners across the company who bring different perspectives and expertise to the table. You can expect leaders who create space for thoughtful design, encourage healthy debate, and support continued growth. Success here is not only about the quality of your individual work, but also about how you make the work, the team, and the broader experience ecosystem stronger.
What you'll shape
- Improve Schwab's digital experiences through thoughtful interaction design, experience standards, and product execution
- Translate client and business needs into scalable product experiences, interaction models, visual frameworks, and reusable patterns
- Create future-state concepts and strategic design visions that help teams see and shape the long-term evolution of Schwab's digital ecosystem
- Design and influence experiences across desktop, mobile web, and native mobile platforms while respecting the strengths and conventions of each
- Identify opportunities to modernize the experience while maintaining quality, accessibility, trust, and consistency
- Explore thoughtful applications of AI-enabled experiences, conversational interfaces, and emerging interaction models
- Define problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and propose solutions that balance client needs, business goals, experience quality, and technical considerations
- Own the delivery of your work, proactively addressing challenges and keeping partners aligned from early exploration through implementation
How you will work
- Partner closely with Experience Design, Product, Engineering, Research, Content, and other cross-functional partners
- Build trust through clear communication, transparency, accountability, and follow-through
- Facilitate design reviews, consultations, and workshops that improve the work and create shared understanding
- Use research, analytics, client feedback, and design judgment to guide decisions
- Constructively question assumptions and help teams find a better path forward when the current answer is not good enough
- Act as a trusted advisor who can influence direction through strong rationale, storytelling, prototypes, and examples
- Support and mentor other designers, share what you know, and stay open to learning from the people around you
You'll thrive in this role if...
- You enjoy simplifying problems that initially feel complex or ambiguous
- You care about both the long-term experience vision and the details that make an interaction feel right
- You think in systems and understand when to use established patterns, when to adapt them, and when to challenge them
- You are energized by collaboration and believe the strongest work comes from bringing different disciplines and perspectives together
- You can lead without relying on authority, invite feedback without losing conviction, and help others move toward a shared outcome
- You want your work to help people feel more informed and confident about their financial lives
