About the Role
Walmart Global Tech is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the Enterprise Feature Store (EFS) team — a high-impact, highly technical platform team sitting at the intersection of AI/ML infrastructure of Product teams, big data engineering, and platform reliability. The EFS is a foundational capability powering machine learning initiatives across Walmart US , Sam's Club, and International markets, enabling teams to define, compute, store, and serve ML features at Walmart scale.
This is a unique leadership opportunity: you will manage and grow an exceptionally talented team that includes Principal Engineers and be accountable for the reliability, scalability, and roadmap of one of Walmart's most critical ML platform services.
What You'll Do
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of ~12-15 engineers across US and IDC (India Development Center), fostering a high-trust, high-accountability engineering culture.
- Partner closely with Product, DEs and Technical fellows to shape technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and ensure technical excellence without creating execution bottlenecks.
- Build an inclusive, psychologically safe team environment where engineers at all levels do their best work.
- Manage performance cycles, set clear goals, and develop career growth plans tailored to each engineer's strengths and aspirations.
- Champion engineering best practices: code quality, design reviews, incident retrospectives, and documentation standards.
Product & Roadmap Execution
- Own the EFS roadmap in partnership with product, ML platform, and business stakeholders across Walmart US Omni, Sam's Club, and International teams.
- Translate business priorities and customer requirements into a well-sequenced, clearly communicated engineering roadmap.
- Drive quarterly planning, sprint execution, and delivery predictability for a platform serving multiple internal customers.
Technical Oversight
- Provide technical oversight (not necessarily hands-on coding) across the full EFS stack: SDK development, data pipelines, and storage tiers.
- Bring in an AI-native and AI-first development mindset and development process that fully leverages Walmart’s AI developer ecosystem
- Hold the bar on system design, platform reliability (SLAs/SLOs), and engineering quality across the Java and Python surface areas.
- Make scope, staffing, and architecture tradeoff decisions with confidence, using the team's senior ICs as thought partners.
- Drive adoption metrics, developer experience improvements, and onboarding ease for EFS across consumer teams.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for EFS across Walmart's AI/ML platform, data engineering, and business unit partner teams.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and data governance teams to ensure the EFS meets compliance, access control, and data quality standards.
- Represent the team in leadership forums, providing clear status updates, risk surfacing, and strategic input.
What You'll Bring
Leadership Experience
- 14+ years of engineering management experience, with a track record of leading senior to staff-level engineers in a platform or infrastructure context.
- Proven ability to lead distributed teams across geographies (US + India strongly preferred).

- Ability to influence, align, and collaborate with diverse partners and stakeholders.
- An Engineering Degree - B.E/B.Tech/MS in any stream – Computer Science preferred.

Technical Depth
- Strong foundation in Java and/or Python — able to read and reason about code, participate meaningfully in design reviews, and evaluate technical tradeoffs.Familiarity with big data processing frameworks (Apache Spark or equivalent) and the operational realities of large-scale batch pipelines.Exposure to online and offline feature store or ML platform concepts: low-latency serving, feature consistency, backfill, point-in-time correctness.Hands-on or oversight experience with distributed data stores such as Cassandra (online), BigTable, or similar column-family / NoSQL stores.Hands on Experience with products like Apache Feast , Tecton, Google Vertex AI will be a big plus.Working familiarity with cloud-native storage and pipelines (GCS, GCP ecosystem preferred; Azure familiarity a plus).Experience owning or contributing to SDK or developer platform products — understanding the unique challenges of building for internal platform consumers.
Execution & Communication
- Strong written and verbal communication — able to translate complex technical topics for both engineering and non-engineering audiences. Comfortable operating in ambiguity, building structure where none exists, and making sound decisions with incomplete information. Data-driven mindset: uses metrics, SLIs/SLOs, and adoption signals to guide prioritization and resourcing conversations. Experience running agile delivery processes in a platform/infrastructure context (not just feature delivery).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an ML platform, data platform, or feature engineering domain. Familiarity with feature store concepts: feature definitions, feature pipelines, point-in-time joins, online/offline consistency, feature serving latency. Experience building and shipping SDKs or developer tooling for internal platform teams. Exposure to Spark-based ETL pipelines at scale: partitioning strategies, cost optimization, pipeline reliability, and monitoring. Experience at a large-scale, multi-tenant platform environment (retail, e-commerce, or similar high-throughput consumer).
