Senior Director, Operations – Eberbach Site

Position Overview

The Senior Director of Operations for the Eberbach site is a key strategic leader responsible for driving operational performance, ensuring manufacturing excellence, and enabling sustainable growth for Catalent’s Softgel SITE in Germany. This role oversees end‑to‑end site operations—including manufacturing, maintenance and facilities ,—with accountability for operational results, compliance, customer delivery, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

 Operational Excellence & Manufacturing Performance

- Oversee all site operations, ensuring reliable delivery and compliance.

- Support  continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, automation) alongside the CI& Engineering experts .

- Establish KPIs and manage operational outcomes.

-Ensure efficiency plans for Operations are developed and implemented

Maintenance Strategy & Asset Management

Develop and execute a multi‑year maintenance strategy ensuring asset reliability, uptime, and lifecycle optimization.

Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

Facilities Management & Site Infrastructure

Ensure all buildings, utilities, and site infrastructure meet operational, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Oversee performance of facility systems (HVAC, water systems, boilers, compressed air, electrical distribution, etc.), ensuring compliance with GMP and EH&S.

Drive space planning, site layout optimization, and improvements that support production growth and business needs.

Lead planning, justification, and execution of capital investments related to  utilities, and facility upgrades alongside Engineering Director.

Coordinate with Engineering on major equipment installs, facility expansions, and modernization initiatives.

Ensure CAPEX projects are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with long‑term site strategy.

Contractor & Vendor Management – Energy Management

Manage external contractors and service providers (cleaning, utilities, security, waste management, facility services).

Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Ensure continuous supply and performance of critical utilities (WFI, clean steam, purified water, HVAC, electrical systems).

Oversee energy efficiency programs, sustainability initiatives, and reduction of environmental footprint.

Monitor utility capacity vs. production growth and proactively plan upgrades.

Regulatory, Safety & Compliance

Ensure maintenance and facilities operations comply with GMP, regulatory guidelines, EH&S policies, and internal procedures.

Maintain complete and audit‑ready documentation related to equipment qualification, calibration, maintenance, and facility upkeep.

Lead readiness for inspections related to utilities, facility conditions, and engineering controls.

 People Leadership & Organizational Development

- Lead, coach, and develop the site operations team

- Build succession pipelines and organizational capabilities.

- build and sustain skills matrix’s for Operations, to develop more flexibility

- Foster engagement and continuous learning.

Customer Focus & External Partnerships

- Partner with Commercial teams  on appropriate  customer communications & problem solving

- Support customer visits, audits, and business reviews as appropriate.

Financial & P&L Accountability

- Own  Operations financial performance :  Develop and manage annual budgets for Operations & for Maintenance, facilities .

- Provide forecasting and business insights.

- Optimize cost efficiency without compromising compliance, safety, or operational reliability.

Qualifications & Experience

- Engineering, Operations, Chemical/Pharma Sciences degree; Master’s preferred.

- 8+ years leadership experience in manufacturing operations (pharma preferred).

- Proven track record in European operations leadership.

-  Lean/CI experience.

- Deep knowledge of GMP, regulatory expectations, and EH&S.

- Strong leadership, analytical skills, and communication abilities.

- Fluency in English and German.

- Ability to be on site 5 days/week.
