As a Senior HVAC Technician, you'll be a key technical leader responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of complex HVAC systems across multiple campuses and locations. This role combines hands-on technical expertise, team leadership, preventative maintenance planning, and a commitment to outstanding customer service.

What You'll Do

As a Senior HVAC Technician, you will:

• Lead and support a team of HVAC technicians, providing guidance, scheduling, training, and quality oversight while remaining actively engaged in field work.
• Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of HVAC, chilled water, boiler, and air handling systems across Dallas College facilities.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, controls, sensors, and related systems.
• Oversee and support the College's HVAC preventive maintenance program, helping ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze system performance data and recommend solutions that improve reliability, energy efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
• Assist with project planning, budget management, and prioritization of HVAC-related capital and maintenance projects.
• Train and mentor technicians on best practices, safety standards, and preventative maintenance procedures.
• Document work activities through the College's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Travel throughout Dallas County using College vehicles to support multiple campus locations.
• Participate in required professional development and perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge & Expertise

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Experience working with commercial chillers, boilers, chilled water systems, air handling units, and mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of direct digital controls (DDC), pneumatic controls, system graphics, device calibration, programming, and troubleshooting across multiple platforms.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical sensors, control devices, and metering equipment.
• Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze system data including temperatures, pressures, voltage, amperage, motor performance, and energy usage metrics.
• Proficiency using computer-based building automation and electrical control systems.
• Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to manage and document work orders.

Position Summary

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facility needs for Dallas College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5,500,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The position of Senior HVAC Technician supports this effort through the performance of advanced skilled craftwork in the HVAC trade. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced Knowledge of repair and replacement of mechanical/electrical sensors, and other control or metering devices.
• Ability to utilize computer technology in order to operate and manage computer based electrical systems.
• Able to gather and analyze information from mechanical and electrical HVAC systems needed to evaluate proper operation such as air temperatures, air pressures, water temperature, water pressures, fan and motor RMP, Kwh, Kw, volts, amps, CT s, PT s, etc.
• Advanced knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air condition units and associated air handling, and chilled water distribution.
• Able to recognize and observe all safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
• Demonstrated the ability to make decisions under the pressure of continuing production. 
• Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written and provide exceptional customer service to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of DDC and pneumatic HVAC controls, graphics, calibration techniques, repair and programing of controls devices across a variety of platforms.
• Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. The ability to utilize computer technology to access data and communicate with others. 
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve HVAC issues.   
• Ability to utilize a computerized maintenance management system to document daily work orders.
• Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50 lbs., lifting 10-80 lbs., carrying 10-50 lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping. May require working in adverse weather conditions.   

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, with eight (8) years of related experience which includes three (3) years supervisory experience.
• Must have commercial Chiller/Boiler experience including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
• EPA Certification is required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures the highest quality of HVAC work across all Dallas College locations.
• Supervises a team of HVAC technicians, is responsible for scheduling and quality control of team duties, at least 50% of time expected to be spent working in the field.
• Responsible for the HVAC preventive maintenance program for the College, maintaining compliance with preventive maintenance standards, policies, and procedures, conducting training for technicians in repair and preventative maintenance procedures.
• Ensures proper management of team budget and assists facilities management in prioritizing HVAC projects.
• Will require travel within Dallas County utilizing College vehicles.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. 
• Performs other duties as assigned.
