Biomedical Equipment Technician I

FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. We operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including 29 primary care clinics, 23 behavioral health facilities, 10 physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.

Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, of whom 91% are low-income and 29% are uninsured. FHCSD provides care to all. Services include, but are not limited to adult care, chronic disease management, pediatrics, comprehensive women’s care including obstetrics, dental, vision, case management, physical rehabilitation, speech therapy for children, vaccinations, infectious diseases, behavioral health, substance use counseling and a host of specialty services including cardiology, podiatry, endocrinology, dermatology, among others.  FHCSD also offers supportive services to those who are unsheltered and in need of intensive case management.

Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for a Biomedical Equipment Technician I to support safe, effective, and reliable operation of medical equipment across clinic locations throughout San Diego County. This position performs preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment audits, and customer service activities while supporting patient care and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform repairs and planned maintenance on basic biomedical equipment.
• Drive customer satisfaction through service excellence throughout the San Diego service area.
• Provide onsite customer support across all clinic locations.
• Evaluate biomedical equipment issues under supervision and implement appropriate repairs.
• Perform equipment audits including data entry into the CMMS system.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities and equipment safety inspections.
• Assist experienced technicians with both basic and complex repairs and equipment resolution activities.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with teammates, customers, and clinical stakeholders.
• Follow FHCSD policies, procedures, clinic protocols, and documentation standards.
• Maintain daily communications with customers to ensure timely resolution and follow-up.
• Support customer facility contractual requirements and business objectives.
• Work as a member of the local biomedical equipment team supporting all FHCSD clinics.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities when trained and assigned.
• Document all repair actions and submit reports and summaries according to established schedules.
• Ensure proper care, control, organization, and calibration of spare parts, tools, and test equipment.
• Expand and maintain technical expertise regarding standards, codes, regulations, and safe equipment operation.
• Utilize technical manuals, tech support resources, the UpKeep application, and online resources when performing maintenance.
• Meet all Health and Human Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; OR equivalent military education; OR participation in a formal biomedical/field engineering internship or military externship program; OR High School Diploma/GED with two or more years of experience servicing electrical, electronics, IT, or mechanical equipment.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Minimum one year of experience.
• Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Experience/Specialized skills:

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Willingness to provide after-hours support and participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends, when required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in a direct, empathetic and understanding manner.

We are excited to share that the salary range for this position is:

$33.65 - $36.50
