Location: Harrisburg
Telework: This position will report to the headquartered location a minimum of 3 days per week. You may have the opportunity to telework the remainder of the week, if desired and based on business need.

Basic Function
The Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section provides oversight of charitable trusts and estates, nonprofit organizations, and the solicitation of charitable donations from Pennsylvania consumers.
This Paralegal position within the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section provides technical and highly skilled legal work in assisting the Deputy Attorneys General and investigative staff in the Harrisburg office. Work involves handling sensitive and confidential matters consistent with attorney-client privilege and is assigned by an attorney and performed independently under the general supervision of an attorney. The position reports to the Chief Deputy Attorney General of the section.
- Reviews estate administration accountings submitted to our Office due to charitable beneficiaries
- Gathers and reviews documents for peripheral estate accounts, such as Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax returns
- Drafts basic legal correspondence, written letters, and emails to assist attorneys assigned to estate administration reviews
- Makes telephone calls to gather information regarding estate administration
- Reviews Orphans’ Court local rules in various Pennsylvania counties to assist attorneys in the litigation process and utilizes research tools such as Westlaw
- Assists attorneys with filing procedures, filing fees, and mailings regarding Orphans’ Court
- Prepares petitions for enforcement actions against Pennsylvania charities in Orphans’ Court
- Works with investigators to complete evidence and create exhibits in support of Orphans’ Court litigation and charity enforcement actions
- Assists attorneys assigned to complex trust termination submissions to include initial review and review of trust financials
- Utilizes electronic databases or library resources to obtain copies of cases, statutes, and regulations for attorneys
- Performs other duties as required
- Four years of experience as a Legal Assistant 2 OR
- Three years of experience as a Legal Assistant 3 OR
- Certification as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant (CP/CLA) by The National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA), certification as a Registered Paralegal (RP) by The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), or advanced certification for legal professionals (PLS) by NALS-The Association for Legal Professionals; and two years performing legal support work OR
- Completion of an associate’s degree or post baccalaureate certificate in legal, paralegal or legal assistant studies, or other related field; and two years performing legal support work OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training
