Aan Hit General Manager
Department: Hospitality
Location: Juneau
Exemption Status: Exempt
Pay Grade(s): 12-14 ($79,306.50 - $95,979.00 + DOE)
Purpose: The Aan Hit General Manager is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the Aan Hit retail and café location. This position provides leadership to staff, oversees financial and operational performance, ensures exceptional customer service, maintains merchandising and food service standards, and promotes an engaging shopping experience that reflects the values and culture of Tlingit & Haida.
Working under the direction of the Director of Hospitality, the General Manager ensures the efficient operation of the facility while supporting revenue growth, operational excellence, and a positive workplace culture.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
· Financial Management
· Develop and implement strategies to achieve sales, revenue, and budget objectives.
· Monitor financial performance through daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
· Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organizational policies.
· Process bank deposits, customer payments, and cash receipts while maintaining accurate financial records.
· Ensure proper cash handling procedures and internal controls are consistently followed.
· Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for audits and reporting.
· Ensure financial systems and databases remain accurate, current, and secure.
· Leadership & Customer Experience
· Lead, mentor, and develop staff while fostering a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
· Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate employees.
· Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action as needed.
· Ensure staffing levels adequately support daily operations and special events.
· Maintain exceptional customer service standards and professionally resolve customer concerns.
· Promote products, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings to enhance the customer experience.
· Operations Management
· Oversee all daily retail and café operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and customer-focused service.
· Manage inventory in collaboration with Procurement and the Hospitality Inventory Specialist to maintain appropriate stock levels and inventory accuracy.
· Ensure merchandise and products are received, inspected, stocked, and displayed appropriately.
· Coordinate Artist Table events, including application processing, scheduling, and communication with participating artists.
· Supervise front-of-house operations, including retail sales, merchandising, café operations, and customer service.
· Continuously evaluate operations and implement improvements that increase efficiency, service quality, and profitability.
· Ensure compliance with Alaska food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety regulations.
· Maintain clean, organized, attractive, and fully stocked sales and café areas.
· Ensure opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, security protocols, and facility inspections are completed daily.
· Collaborate with Hospitality leadership and other departments to support organizational initiatives and special events.
· Respond to operational issues as needed, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call situations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
· Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and progressively responsible experience may be considered.
· Three (3) years of progressively responsible retail, hospitality, café, or customer service management experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibility.
· Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, inventory, and staff scheduling.
· Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
· Current Alaska Food Safety Manager Card or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
