Job Title: Sr. Construction/Installation Engineer - (Structure - Topsides & Bridges)
KBR is growing its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for an exciting, high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The ADNOC PMC project role would be based initially in Contractors Office/ Fabrication Yard Office in Abu Dhabi for some time and then will later move to Offshore Site on 6 weeks on/ 3 weeks off rotation.
Job Purpose
The Senior Construction/Installation Engineer - Structures (Topsides & Bridges) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the construction, load-out, transportation, offshore installation, hook-up, and commissioning support activities for Offshore Topsides, Interconnecting Bridges, and associated structural facilities.
The role ensures that all offshore construction and installation activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, approved procedures, client requirements, and industry standards. The incumbent will provide technical leadership, interface management, and construction engineering support throughout all phases of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Construction & Installation Engineering
- Lead construction and offshore installation engineering activities related to topsides, bridges, modules, and associated offshore structures.
- Review and approve installation methodologies, lifting plans, rigging studies, transportation analyses, and offshore execution procedures.
- Ensure constructability considerations are incorporated during engineering and fabrication phases.
- Develop installation work packs, method statements, and execution plans.
- Coordinate with engineering, fabrication, marine, and commissioning teams to support project objectives.
- Monitor offshore installation progress and provide technical guidance to site teams.
Offshore Structures Installation
Manage and support installation activities for:
- Offshore Topsides
- Production Decks
- Utility Decks
- Wellhead Decks
- Interconnecting Bridges
- Bridge Support Structures
- Flare Bridges and Flare Structures
- Deck Extensions
- Living Quarters Modules
- Equipment Modules and Skids
- Brownfield Modification Structures
- Secondary Steel and Structural Appurtenances
Load-Out & Marine Transportation
- Coordinate topside and bridge load-out activities from fabrication yards.
- Review sea-fastening designs and transportation studies.
- Support transportation readiness reviews and marine assurance activities.
- Coordinate with barge contractors, vessel operators, and marine warranty surveyors.
- Ensure transportation activities are executed safely and according to approved procedures.
Offshore Installation & Hook-Up
- Support offshore heavy lift operations involving topsides and bridge structures.
- Coordinate crane vessel activities and installation sequences.
- Monitor lifting, positioning, alignment, and structural connections.
- Support bridge integration, mechanical completion, and structural tie-ins.
- Coordinate hook-up and interface works with commissioning teams.
- Resolve offshore construction challenges and engineering queries.
Engineering Review & Technical Support
- Review construction drawings, fabrication deliverables, lift studies, and installation analyses.
- Participate in constructability reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, and SIMOPS workshops.
- Review and manage technical queries (TQs), field engineering changes, and installation deviations.
- Provide technical recommendations to project management and offshore execution teams.
- Ensure engineering deliverables support safe and efficient offshore installation.
HSE Responsibilities
- Ensure strict compliance with project HSE requirements and offshore safety regulations.
- Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and pre-job safety meetings.
- Ensure all offshore activities are conducted under approved Permit-to-Work systems.
- Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all construction and installation activities.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with Engineering, Fabrication, Marine Operations, Hook-Up, Commissioning, Quality, and Project Controls teams.
- Coordinate with installation contractors, heavy lift vessel operators, and subcontractors.
- Participate in client meetings, readiness reviews, and project progress meetings.
- Ensure effective communication between offshore and onshore project teams.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Verify compliance with approved procedures, quality plans, and project specifications.
- Support inspection and testing activities during offshore installation.
- Review and approve as-built records and installation documentation.
- Assist in punch list management and project handover activities.
- Participate in internal and external audits as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's Degree is an advantage.
Professional Certifications (Preferred)
- PMP Certification
- BOSIET/HUET
- Offshore Safety Certifications
- Lifting and Rigging Certification
- NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification
Experience
- Minimum 15-18 years of experience in offshore construction and installation within EPC/EPCI oil & gas projects.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior construction, offshore installation, or execution engineering role.
- Proven experience in the installation of:
- Offshore Topsides
- Production Platforms
- Interconnecting Bridges
- Utility Modules
- Living Quarters
- Flare Structures
- Brownfield Offshore Modifications
- Experience with heavy lift vessels, marine transportation, and offshore hook-up activities.
- Previous experience in Middle East offshore projects (ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, etc.) is preferred.
