Laboratories Manager
About the Role
Laboratories Manager contributes to Hitachi’s obligation to define, manage and carry out the test regime, including functional tests, FAT/I-FAT, SAT, commissioning evidence and support to System Integration Testing and Trial Runs. Its specific contribution is to maintain test environments, lab integrity, equipment readiness and support FAT/I-FAT/regression activities.
Key Responsibilities
Define laboratory strategy, access rules, safety controls, cybersecurity arrangements, calibration needs, equipment register and booking process.
Maintain lab configurations, simulators, test benches, software/firmware versions and network connectivity.
Support FAT, integration tests, regression tests, troubleshooting, training preparation and evidence capture.
Coordinate lab baseline control with Configuration & Defect Manager, Cybersecurity, Engineering and suppliers.
Control lab incidents, defects, changes, housekeeping and readiness for witnessed testing.
Apply the Hitachi Code of Conduct in role-specific decisions, including ethical escalation, anti-bribery discipline, confidentiality, data protection, fair supplier/customer conduct and transparent records.
Maintain test environments, lab integrity, equipment readiness and support FAT/I-FAT/regression activities.
Owns lab configuration and readiness of test environments.
Can hold back lab use/release if environments are not controlled.
Key Interfaces
IVVQ Manager, T&C Manager, Test Engineer, Engineering Manager and Cybersecurity Manager.
Work Package Leaders, suppliers, Quality and Configuration & Defect Manager.
Training Manager where labs are used for training preparation.
Customer test-lab stakeholders.
Lab readiness reviews.
Defect/release reviews.
Authority & Accountability
Accountable for safe, controlled and representative laboratory environments.
Authorised to control lab access, reject unapproved configurations and require calibration/safety/security corrections.
Escalates lab capacity, readiness or configuration risks to IVVQ/T&C leadership.
Mandate
Provide controlled laboratory environments that reduce site risk and support credible testing, troubleshooting and training.
Skills & Experience
Experience managing integration laboratories, test benches or simulation environments for rail, telecoms, automation or IT/OT systems.
Strong configuration, cybersecurity, calibration, safety and test-equipment management skills.
Ability to balance lab availability with baseline control.
Resilience and resistance to stress during FAT deadlines, troubleshooting and witnessed tests.
Structured, practical and safety-conscious approach.
More than 5–7 years in lab/staging environment management and configuration control.
