Senior Software Developer

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with a passion for operational excellence and security to join our team and help shape the financial future of the next generation. You'll work at the intersection of engineering and security operations, driving vulnerability remediation, security compliance, and infrastructure hardening across Mydoh—all while maintaining the platform reliability that serves thousands of young users daily.

This role combines your core backend engineering skills with a strategic focus on proactive security posture. You'll own not just what we build, but how we keep it secure and compliant. This is ideal for engineers who want to see their work impact customer trust and organizational resilience.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Core Backend Engineering (40%)
- Develop and maintain backend services using NestJS and TypeScript, architecting scalable APIs that power our platform
- Design, build, and maintain reusable component libraries and modules that scale across backend applications
- Contribute meaningfully to architecture discussions, performance optimization, and system design
- Own complex deliverables across the complete development lifecycle, from concept to production
- Collaborate on database design, API contracts, and technical implementation details

Security Operations & Hardening (60%)
- Lead vulnerability remediation efforts, triaging and remediating vulnerabilities and security scan findings with business context and priority judgment
- Own dependency management, maintaining secure, up-to-date package versions across our backend services and communicating security implications to the team
- Support incident response, investigating security-related incidents, recommending system improvements, and treating each incident as a learning opportunity
- Build security automation, creating tooling and processes that enable developers to ship secure code faster (e.g., SAST integration, dependency scanning, shift-left security practices)
- Collaborate with RBC security teams, aligning Mydoh's security posture with enterprise standards and compliance requirements

Operational Excellence & On-Call
- Own operational excellence by ensuring SLAs are met, assisting with incident response, and continuously improving our operational and security posture
- Be comfortable being part of an on-call rotation, driving and supporting incident remediation, and recommending improvements
- Drive automation and tooling to reduce operational overhead, improve observability, enable proactive monitoring, and scale efficiently
- Help define and champion development best practices that embed security as a shared responsibility

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

 Must have
- Proven expertise in TypeScript and NestJS
- Strong backend skills with PostgreSQL and TypeORM
- Solid experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest)
- Proven track record of delivering ownership of complex, scalable systems
- Deep consideration for maintainability, testability, performance, and scalability in your code
- Senior-level judgment with architectural opinions and technical perspective
- Payments or financial services domain knowledge
- Experience with incident response, SLA management, and observability tools
- Demonstrated interest or background in security best practices and vulnerability management

Nice to Have
- AWS cloud infrastructure experience
- Experience with OAuth and authentication flows
- Background in API performance optimization
- Experience with API design and microservices architecture
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and dependency checkers
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2) relevant to fintech
- Familiarity with security incident management and post-mortems
- Rapid development using AI workflows
