Description
The Communications Coordinator serves as the district's primary content creator, storyteller, webmaster, and multimedia specialist. The Coordinator supports district communications, public relations, marketing, and stakeholder engagement efforts through development of written content, multimedia resources, digital communications, social media management, website administration, photography, videography, audio-visual support, and event communications support.
The Communications Coordinator works collaboratively with schools, departments, and district leadership to capture and communicate stories that highlight student achievement, staff excellence, educational opportunities, community partnerships, and district initiatives, and provides audio-visual support for Board of Education meetings and district events. The Coordinator ensures communication content is timely, accurate, engaging, accessible, and aligned with district branding standards and communication objectives, and reports to the Director of Public Relations and Communications.Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety, and computer security regulations.
Content Development and Storytelling
Serves as the district's primary storyteller, identifying, developing, and writing articles, feature stories, news releases, announcements, and other communication materials that highlight student achievement, staff accomplishments, school success, district initiatives, and community partnerships.
Develops original written and visual content, newsletters, blogs, publications, brochures, flyers, graphics, digital content, presentations, and promotional materials for district websites, email communications, and other communication resources.
Interviews students, employees, families, administrators, and community members to develop communication content and success stories.
Assists with development and implementation of communication campaigns supporting district goals and strategic priorities.
Ensures communication content is accurate, engaging, timely, professional, and consistent with district branding standards and visual identity guidelines.
Utilizes graphic design software and other content-creation tools to produce professional marketing and communication materials.
Website, Social Media, and Digital Communications
Serves as the district's webmaster, maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting the district and school websites and related web infrastructure, and coordinating improvements so content remains current, accurate, accessible, and user-friendly.
Maintains district social media accounts and platforms; creates, schedules, publishes, and monitors social media content, and develops content calendars and communication schedules for social media and newsletters.
Assists in implementation of social media strategies that increase stakeholder engagement and public awareness.
Supports ADA accessibility compliance and implementation of digital communication systems, technologies, and user-experience enhancements across district platforms.
Monitors website traffic, social media engagement, and other digital communication metrics and audience participation data.
Photography, Videography, and Audio-Visual Support
Serves as the district's primary photographer and videographer, capturing photographs and video content at district events, school activities, student programs, athletic events, ceremonies, and community functions.
Produces and edits photographs, videos, interviews, and multimedia resources supporting district communication, marketing, recruitment, and engagement efforts.
Provides audio-visual (AV) support for Board of Education meetings, district events, press conferences, and community forums, including equipment setup, operation, live streaming, recording, and technical troubleshooting.
Maintains photography, video, and audio-visual equipment and digital media archives, and coordinates services with external vendors as needed.
Media Relations and Communications Support
Assists with preparation of press releases, media advisories, and public information materials, and coordinates media requests, interview logistics, and follow-up communications as assigned.
Maintains media contact databases, communication records, and digital news archives, and monitors media coverage and analytics.
Serves as the district's secondary media contact when assigned by the Director of Public Relations and Communications.
Assists with planning, promotion, and communication support for district events, ceremonies, recognition programs, stakeholder meetings, and community engagement activities, including photography, videography, and AV/media support, and support during virtual and in-person events such as Board of Education meetings.
Maintains communication calendars, publication schedules, content libraries, project timelines, and departmental records, archives, and media assets.
Supports district communication priorities and projects as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
Attends training, conferences, workshops, and professional learning opportunities related to content creation, digital communications, multimedia production, and stakeholder engagement.
Promotes a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Media Production, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, media production, graphic design, digital communications, or a related field.
- Experience in photography, videography, website management, social media management, graphic design, and multimedia production.
- Experience working in public education, governmental organizations, nonprofit organizations, or public service environments preferred.
