Introduction to the Team

The Traveler Business Team builds and drives growth for our global consumer businesses—Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. This division creates compelling and differentiated traveler value for each brand by setting the strategic vision, operating strategy, and plan. Responsibilities include investment allocation and prioritization, P&L accountability, and leading cross-functional teams across Expedia Group, who are all held accountable to a single scorecard.

Vrbo is seeking an Accountant to join its revenue accounting team in Springfield, Missouri. Reporting to the Director, Accounting, you will support core revenue accounting processes for our global online vacation rental business. This role offers an opportunity to develop expertise in revenue recognition, financial systems, data analysis, and process improvement within a technology-driven travel company.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Support monthly and quarterly revenue accounting close activities, including journal entries, close procedures, and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and analyze reconciliations for restricted cash, revenue, deferred revenue, accounts receivable, and related accounts.
  • Assist with applying and documenting revenue recognition policies under U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
  • Review transactional data, investigate variances and unusual activity, and resolve reconciliation differences.
  • Communicate accounting issues and escalate risks promptly and appropriately.
  • Help maintain effective SOX controls, accounting documentation, and audit-ready support.
  • Support quarterly and year-end audits by gathering schedules, documentation, and evidence.
  • Partner with Sales, FP&A, Product Management, Legal, Tax, and technology teams to address accounting and data questions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and improve revenue accounting processes and reporting.
  • Build knowledge of revenue systems, reporting tools, and data sources while contributing to an inclusive and collaborative team environment.

Experience and Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
  • Up to three years of accounting experience, including internship, public accounting, corporate accounting, or relevant financial reporting experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting principles, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close activities.
  • Experience reviewing transactional data, investigating variances, or analyzing financial information.
  • Proficient Excel skills, with careful attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and follow-through.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with teammates and cross-functional partners.

Preferred

  • Interest in developing expertise in revenue recognition and experience with U.S. GAAP.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Power Query, Tableau, financial systems, or similar reporting and data tools.
  • Experience supporting SOX controls, audits, process documentation, or process improvement initiatives.

The total cash range for this position in Springfield is $55,000.00 to $77,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $88,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
