Role: Assistant Accountant (12 month FTC)
Location: London
Position: Fixed Term Contract
To provide support to the Financial Accountant and the Syndicate Finance Operations team to ensure the monthly and quarterly reporting processes operate in an efficient, controlled and timely manner. The role consists of the control and reconciliation of the Oracle ledger and assistance with the daily workflow processes. The key areas of responsibility are the transactions originating from Subscribe 2000, ensuring underwriting transactions are correctly recorded, cash transactions are either paid or received and anomalies are challenged with the relevant departments.
About The Job
While there is rarely a typical day, here’s a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining subledgers, ensuring accurate postings and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts during the monthly and quarterly ledger close cycles and assist to perform balance sheet substantiation procedures
The reconciliation of underwriting figures between Subscribe 2000 and Oracle
Prepare standard accounting journals such as IPT adjustments and entries to clear and maintain the subledgers
Assist to perform analytical reviews to create insights over financial accounts that will support the result over the reporting period
To remain up to date with IFRS and UK GAAP accounting requirements to ensure that transactions are properly recorded
Contribute to the documentation of processes, risks and controls
Contribute to process improvement and system enhancements within the finance function and become involved in ad hoc change and transformation projects as they arise
As and when required support the wider UK Operations team in the production of deliverables. This will be most common during quarterly reporting
To assist the Settlement Working Group by obtaining reports from other departments (incl. Credit Risk, Payments, Treasury, Syndicate Finance), and arrange monthly meetings with representatives from other departments, challenge and discuss suspected breaches; maintain action log and escalations
Co-ordinate information to assess if breached any premium trust rules of premium trust bank accounts

What you’ll need:
For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
Essential
Working towards ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent accounting qualification
Understanding of financial accounting
Demonstrate evidence of interpreting and manipulating data clearly and accurately
Proven track record of working in a deadline driven environment
Good organisational skills including effective scheduling, prioritisation and time management skills
Proficiency in financial software (Microsoft Excel, accounting systems and ERP)
Good communication skills to articulate insights
Excellent analytical skills
Strong controls and reconciliations experience
Desirable
Understanding of the Lloyd’s Market and Service Companies
Experience with using Oracle general ledgers.
Experience of Subscribe 2000
Experience with or interest in automation of finance processes to meet accelerated timetables
