Job Description

Reuters is looking for an enthusiastic entry-level Photo Editor with advanced English skills and a sharp eye for detail, capable of sifting through the thousands of images our photographers produce each day.

You will join our global team from Barcelona, Spain, helping to edit Reuters' world-leading news picture service. In this role, you will contribute to the daily picture production and ensure our clients receive accurate, compelling, and timely visual journalism.

Our Global Pictures Desk ensures the quality, accuracy, and speed of delivery of news images to clients worldwide. We are part of a dynamic newsroom where picture, video, text, and graphics journalists work together to produce a distinctive professional news service. We are often among the first to see the news as it happens.

Please note: this role requires working from the office at least four days per week.

The start date is planned for November / December 2026.

Key Responsibilities

As an Associate Picture Editor, you will:

  • Gather and assess images sent by editors and photographers from around the world.

  • Edit photographs and research, write, and refine photo captions in English quickly and accurately for delivery to Reuters clients.

  • Maintain close operational links between Pictures, Text, Video, and Digital teams to support integrated news coverage and production.

  • Live edit coverage of major breaking news, sports, and entertainment events.

  • Apply Reuters editorial standards to ensure accuracy, speed, and quality under deadline pressure.

Required Qualifications

You are a strong fit for the role if you have:

  • Fluent written and spoken English (at least C1 level).

  • Demonstrated interest in photography and journalism.

  • A passion for news and visual storytelling, with a strong awareness of current affairs.

  • Good news judgment, strong visual instincts, and a curiosity for spotting developing stories.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work carefully and accurately under deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any relevant journalism early-career experience.

  • Working knowledge of Apple computers and Adobe Photoshop.

  • Any additional language would be an asset.

You must be willing to work as part of a global 24/7 rotating shift operation, including weekends, public holidays, and overnight shifts.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the world's biggest news, sports, and entertainment stories while collaborating with Reuters journalists across multiple continents.
