CBC News is looking for an innovative and versatile video producer with a strong interest in world news and excellent field video producing skills to join our bureau in Mumbai, India. If you’re a creator at heart and enjoy storytelling and producing content across visual formats, this job could be for you. 

The goal at CBC News is to help Canadians make sense of their world, including the changing role the Indo-Pacific region plays in everything from geo-politics and trade, to technology, culture and climate.  In this role, you’ll collaborate with a small team, under the direction of the Senior Producer, World News Assignment, to bring those stories to Canadian audiences across video, audio and text. 

You bring a deep knowledge of the historical complexities of the region and the confidence to help shape the CBC News editorial coverage. 

You’re a technical whiz who will be shooting, editing, packaging and publishing content on multiple platforms. This includes short-form vertical videos and on-demand content for CBC.ca and beyond. 

You are also strong editorially. You have story ideas and are thinking about creative treatments to attract new and younger audiences on mobile platforms. You excel at guiding stories from concept to post-production, and are quick to pivot when plans change. Your decisions are driven by audience needs, and you’re constantly searching for new voices and new perspectives who reflect a broad range of lived experiences within the region.

You are deeply committed to the values of a public service broadcaster. You uphold the CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices, especially our core principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity. 

You understand that stories can break at any time of the day and you have a genuine desire to be on-top of that coverage. The position requires long-hours, flexible schedules and a willingness to deploy on a moment’s notice, including to conflict zones. The minimum assignment length for this position is two years and, if agreed to by both parties, may be extended for up to an additional two years. 


 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Pitches, shoots, produces and edits short and long-form digital-first video content tailored for platforms like TikTok and YouTube as well as CBC.ca.

  • Manage on-the-ground gear — including cameras, portable lighting, and wireless mics — to capture visually impactful footage and clean audio for news content. 

  • Ingest, organize, assemble, and edit raw footage into compelling narrative formats using industry-standard software (such as Premiere Pro); attention to good sound design and mixing; knowledge of basic motion graphics/titles to elevate production value. 

  • Generate and execute compelling journalism, including researching, writing, generating and editing video, audio and text. 

  • Performing location surveys and identifying special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles and equipment, including production limitations. 

  • Providing technical guidance and expertise focused on content production techniques, workflows and creative content gathering techniques for complex situations. 

  • Collaborate effectively across CBC News to ensure comprehensive coverage across multiple platforms, programs and locations. 

What is required: 

  • You are a seasoned video-journalist with at least five (5) years of directly related field experience at a network/national level who thrives in a deadline driven, high pressure environment. 

  • A superior level of technical knowledge and understanding of live coverage, visual gathering, visual production and post-production methods and remote filing tools.

  • A strong sense of creativity, initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle.

  • Demonstrated editorial skills, showing proficiency in story preparation and production of highly creative, innovative visual storytelling, from script-writing through to the final edits. 

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills are required, including active listening, problem-solving and an ability to work across teams.  

  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a professional attitude.

  • Must possess a valid passport and have the ability and willingness to travel internationally on short notice. 

  • Graduate degree/diploma from a University or Community college in a relevant course of study or equivalent industry experience. 

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and various shift patterns including overnights and weekends.
