Overview
The Brokerage Account Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, performance, and growth of an assigned portfolio of brokerage customers. This role serves as the primary point of contact for customers and is responsible for developing a strong understanding of each customer's supply chain, operational requirements, and business objectives.
The Account Manager will own customer service and execution, identify opportunities for growth and operational improvement, and partner with internal teams to ensure customer expectations are consistently met. Success in this role requires strong relationship management, problem-solving, commercial awareness, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Responsibilities
Scope
- Manage an assigned portfolio of brokerage customers representing approximately $5–10MM+ in annual revenue
- Maintain ownership of customer relationships, service performance, revenue, and profitability
- Manage an average of 20+ shipments per day / 100+ shipments per week, depending on assigned book of business
- Support the achievement of weekly, period, and annual revenue and margin targets
- Serve as the primary point of contact and first line of support for assigned customers
- Collaborate closely with Brokerage Operations, Carrier Operations, Business Development, Pricing, IT, Finance, and leadership
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customer contacts to drive customer satisfaction, retention, and long-term partnership
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of assigned customers' supply chains, transportation requirements, service expectations, and strategic initiatives
- Maintain ownership of day-to-day customer execution, ensuring shipments are accepted, built, scheduled, and managed accurately
- Proactively monitor customer performance and resolve service issues before they negatively impact the customer
- Identify potential growth opportunities within existing accounts and develop solutions that create value for both the customer and PLCI
- Partner with leadership and Business Development on customer growth strategies and account planning
- Utilize freight market knowledge, historical performance, and pricing tools to support annual bids, mini-bids, spot opportunities, and ad hoc pricing requests
- Monitor account profitability and identify opportunities to improve margin, service, and operational efficiency
- Analyze customer KPIs and service trends to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Provide regular customer and internal reporting related to volume, revenue, margin, service performance, and account growth
- Develop forecasts for assigned customers and communicate anticipated changes in volume, revenue, or customer requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Carrier Operations and other internal teams to ensure customer commitments are executed successfully
- Escalate significant service, financial, or customer relationship risks to leadership while maintaining ownership through resolution
- Maintain accurate customer documentation, SOPs, pricing information, and operational requirements
- Demonstrate flexibility to support customer needs outside normal business hours when required
Compensation & Benefits:
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $54,700 - $82,050.

Qualifications
- 10% External – New and existing customers and asset-based carriers
- 30% Internal - Collaboration with business development, carrier ops, IT, and leadership team
Travel: Approximately 5% travel may be required for customer meetings, business reviews, and other business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 1-2+ years of transportation, freight brokerage, supply chain, logistics, or account management experience preferred
- Strong understanding of freight brokerage operations and transportation fundamentals preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships
- Ability to anticipate customer needs, identify potential issues, and proactively develop solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to drive decisions
- Drive for Results to excel at customer service and account development
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize freight pricing techniques, market intelligence, and brokerage tools
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple customers, shipments, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
