The expected salary range for this position is $80,170.00 - $94,197.40. Employees in specific high cost of labor locations in the United States (such as San Francisco, CA and Seattle, WA) may qualify for a geographic differential. This intermediate relationship specialist builds and manages a portfolio of mid-level prospective and current donors in order to meet department revenue goals. This specialist further customizes activities and campaigns to further engage constituents with Compassion's ministry objectives. At this career level, she or he generally works independently on moderately complex revenue generating strategies or as a team member on larger projects.

This position may be filled at either the Level I or Level II level based on the selected candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated competencies. While this posting reflects the Level II position, candidates who meet the qualifications for Level I are also encouraged to apply. Compensation will be aligned with the level at which the candidate is hired.

What will you do?

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.

  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.

  • Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion's core "Cultural Behaviors" in all internal and external communication and relationships.

  • Serves as an intermediate relationship specialist in a professional fundraising environment with particular emphasis on cultivation and stewardship of mid-level donors and constituents of Compassion's ministry. Advances growth along all product lines and is accountable for achieving individual revenue goals.

  • Customizes unique fundraising and cultivation activities/campaigns for the purpose of generating revenue, increasing retention, identifying prospects, and acquiring commitments/sponsorships.

  • Educates small group audiences of current and prospective donors and constituents on Compassion's ministry of Christian child development. Encourages engagement and builds strong relationships with planned portfolio of constituents through regular personal visits, phone calls, proposals, presentations, and other correspondence.

  • Sets fundraising forecasts for individual portfolio. Sets strategy and timelines for each constituent relationship and qualified prospect in order to achieve fundraising goals. Completes fundraising and stewardship reports based on established format for both internal use and constituent use as needed.

  • Serves as key participant on Compassion tours and project visits, meetings, and special events. As appropriate, also includes constituents in visits and events.

  • May be responsible for various types of speaking engagements advocating for Compassion or Children in need.

  • May coach and provide expertise to other relationship managers in the Marketing Development discipline.
     

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 

  • One to five years of relationship management, fundraising, sales, customer service, or account management experience, with demonstrated responsibility for achieving goals and delivering measurable results. Candidates with fundraising experience are preferred, though transferable relationship-based experience will be considered.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust quickly, personalize donor interactions, and represent Compassion's mission with professionalism and authenticity through phone, video, and written communication. 

  • Confidence initiating and leading conversations about charitable giving, with the ability to identify opportunities, invite deeper engagement, and help donors align their passions with Compassion's ministry impact. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage constituent relationships strategically, including setting engagement plans, maintaining consistent follow-up, and using multiple communication channels to cultivate long-term donor relationships. 

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail and a high standard of stewardship. 

  • Emotional maturity, resilience, and a positive attitude, allowing for effective navigation of changing priorities, donor concerns, and challenging conversations while maintaining a service-oriented mindset. 

  • Personal alignment with Compassion's Christian faith and ministry mission, including a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to Compassion's Cultural Behaviors and child protection standards. 

We will be excited if you have experience with:

  • Professional fundraising, donor cultivation, donor stewardship, or nonprofit relationship management. 

  • Managing a portfolio of customers, donors, clients, or strategic accounts with individual performance or revenue goals. 

  • Presenting to individuals or small groups, facilitating donor experiences, or representing an organization at events and engagement opportunities. 

  • CRM systems, donor databases, fundraising reports, or relationship management tools used to track engagement activities and results.
