Description

Introduction

As Business Design Lead, you will lead the Wholesale Banking (WB) Business and Information Design Unit, defining and governing Wholesale Banking’s end-to-end business, data, solution, and AI-enabled architecture. This is a strategic leadership role within the WB Chief Data Office (CDO) organization, responsible for translating ING’s global data strategy, enterprise frameworks, and regulatory requirements into coherent target-state designs across Wholesale Banking.

You will provide the architectural leadership needed to transform strategic ambitions into scalable, future-proof solutions. Acting as the senior design authority for WB CDO, you will connect business, data, technology, and AI domains while driving standardization, simplification, regulatory compliance, and long-term architectural integrity across the organization.

The team

The WB Business and Information Design Unit serves as the strategic design authority of the WB CDO organization. The unit is responsible for ensuring that data, business, and technology architectures are aligned, standardized, and scalable across Wholesale Banking.

The team integrates strategy and execution by providing design principles, architectural blueprints, and governance oversight that guide tribes, product areas, domains, regions, and delivery organizations toward a unified operating model.

As Business Design Lead, you will lead the Data Products Practice Lead, Information Design and Modelling Lead, and Data Information Analyst Lead, bringing together architecture, information design, data products, and analysis capabilities into one coherent design organization.

Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you will provide architectural leadership across the Wholesale Banking data ecosystem and ensure that strategic, regulatory, and delivery objectives are translated into executable designs.

  • Define and govern WB’s target-state business, data, solution, and AI-enabled architecture, including principles, standards, design guardrails, and decision rights.
  • Lead the Business and Information Design Unit, aligning data product, information architecture, data analysis, enterprise architecture, and AI architecture capabilities.
  • Translate WB CDO strategy, portfolio priorities, and regulatory commitments into executable architecture roadmaps and delivery sequencing.
  • Drive architectural coherence across domains, regions, business lines, products, platforms, and services through standardization, reuse, simplification, and controlled integration.
  • Own portfolio-wide architecture oversight, including management of design dependencies, trade-offs, sequencing risks, and implementation integrity.
  • Embed Global CDO standards, data framework requirements, regulatory controls, and audit expectations by design.
  • Act as the senior architecture authority for WB CDO, providing expert challenge, design assurance, and decision support to senior business, data, technology, risk, and control stakeholders.
  • Guide strategic decision-making by balancing business outcomes, technology choices, regulatory obligations, and data management requirements.
  • Build and lead a high-performing design organization, strengthening architecture capability, governance discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Advance data maturity across Wholesale Banking through disciplined design, architectural coherence, and continuous evolution of the target-state data landscape.
