Position Summary
The Senior Buyer/Planner plays a key role in purchasing, material planning, and supply chain operations at Rocket Farms. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategy & Supply, this role translates sales forecasts and production requirements into purchasing plans that ensure timely material availability while optimizing inventory, cost, quality, and delivery.
This position serves as a key link between Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain, helping ensure material requirements stay aligned with changing demand and production needs across Rocket Farms facilities, contract growers, and co-packers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate sales forecasts, production requirements, inventory levels, open purchase orders, and supplier lead times into actionable purchasing and replenishment plans.
- Maintain and oversee the MRP system, including item master data, new item setup, item codes, bill of materials creation and maintenance, and inventory control.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, S&OP, Product Development, Horticulture, and Operations to proactively reconcile supply and demand and address shortages, excess inventory, or changing production needs.
- Lead day-to-day purchasing and material planning activities, including order replenishment, purchase order execution, supplier follow-up, and material availability.
- Procure live plant products, floral décor, packaging supplies, and other components essential to production and packing.
- Analyze inventory, material usage, lead times, safety stock, supplier performance, and production requirements to support effective purchasing decisions.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and lead pricing, contract negotiations, cost reviews, risk assessments, and supplier performance evaluations.
- Support logistics and receiving by overseeing import processes, inbound transportation, inter-facility transfers, and contingency planning.
- Monitor vendor inventory reports and timely deliveries; assist with invoice verification and approvals.
- Develop and standardize procurement and material planning SOPs to improve efficiency, inventory control, and cost management.

Requirements
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, procurement, material planning, or supply chain experience within a manufacturing or production-driven environment.
- Experience in horticulture, agriculture, food, consumer products, packaging, or similar industries strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems, including material planning, purchasing, inventory management, item master maintenance, and bill of materials creation and maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience translating sales forecasts and production requirements into purchasing and material plans.
- Strong understanding of inventory planning, supplier lead times, safety stock, material availability, and purchasing requirements.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Sales and Operations to proactively balance supply and demand.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Proven abilities in planning, negotiating, and managing purchasing activities across multiple product categories.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and qualify for company-sponsored vehicle insurance.

Compensation
$100,000 - $110,528
