Job Description

The Senior Engineer, Control Systems is a member of MNAO's Production Engineering team responsible for leading stakeholders through sophisticated production changes. This includes new model years, Interim Product Measure (IPM), Engineering Change Notice (ECN) and production volume changes. The team serves as a critical partner including MNAO Huntsville, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTMUS), Mazda Corporate in Japan (MC) and various suppliers and contractors. A key output for the Production Engineering team is successful Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) goals for Mazda while ensuring all production systems (methods, equipment, tools, and parameters) are successfully communicated and implemented across MTMUS and suppliers. The team must also look for methods to create a stable production environment, to include cost and quality improvement, through the production supply chain.

The Senior Engineer, Control Systems is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all projects related to sophisticated process control systems across all applicable stakeholders. This role must identify and work to communicate any changes impacting all stakeholders' production such as IPM, ECN, material changes and variances in production volume. Additionally, the Senior Engineer supports management with the training and development of other engineers within MNAO and MTMUS on practices, procedures and assists in keeping all training material relevant and up to date.

Major Responsibilities

• (50%) Process Control System Development
  • Implement a Process Control System and Production Instruction System to maintain the quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) standards for Mazda models, ensuring they meet planned changes such as improvements, engineering changes, material updates, and adjustments in production volume.
  • Enhance the quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) of mass-produced models by examining and addressing operational and quality challenges. Implement adjustments, including control system modifications, to meet these objectives.
  • Lead project plans, ensuring all internal and external stakeholders understand and aligned on specific measures and schedules; track progress and report to stakeholders as needed.
  • Develop, design, and continuously update all components of Process Control System as needed.
  • Develop and maintain reports to keep management informed about the progress and status of all projects; engage in consistent communication to secure additional support as necessary.
  • Oversee and coordinate training sessions and pre-production builds, collaborating with team members from various departments and contractors and MTMUS confirming the implemented modifications work as intended and target QCD is achieved.

• (50%) Vehicle Control System (VCS) Planning
  • Proactively evaluate vehicle systems and production processes to prevent potential quality issues during launch and mass production; develop and implement countermeasures to address identified risks.
  • Conduct studies and support implementation of vehicle control and process changes in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring local construction work and ensure alignment with quality and project requirements.
  • Identify and address changes in production pace and mix ratio, coordinating with management to update specifications and system parameters as needed.
  • Coordinate and perform trials and inspections with manufacturing and maintenance teams to confirm Vehicle Control Systems (VCS) modifications function as intended; conduct final workability and quality checks during in-line events.
  • Facilitate the final handover process to MTMUS by expediting readiness and supporting inline checks; develop manuals and procedures for sustainable VCS operation.
  • Prepare detailed trial plans, readiness reports and regular project status updates to provide clear visibility to management and stakeholders.
  • Consolidate information from departments to support overall VCS project execution, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely delivery and effective issue resolution.
  • Assist with VCS updates in response to IPM, ECN, and production volume changes, verifying that new parameters, system configurations, and quality controls meet company standards.
  • Investigate, analyze, and help resolve operational or quality issues related to vehicle control systems during mass production.
  • Ensure MTMUS and all regularly communicate with suppliers to reinforce alignment with vehicle quality assurance standards and processes.

Work Experience

• 5+ years of experience in production engineering or maintenance department in automotive OEM or related industry required

Education

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Industrial Engineering Preferred
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Mechanical Engineering Preferred
• An equivalent mix of education, training, and/or work experience may be considered in place of a degree Required

Pay Range

$95,500.00 - $145,675.00

Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
