Systems Engineer for Training Simulation & Innovation (f/m/d)

Eurofighter Typhoon is the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft providing simultaneously deployable Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface capabilities. Airbus is acting as the main contractor within the industrial Pilot Synthetic Training System consortium. Combat Training Systems department develops state-of-the-art EF simulator systems. Long term, multinational, large scale system of systems programs are the best place to learn and perform engineering activities.

To strengthen our team in Manching, we are looking for a Systems Engineer (f/m/d) for Training Simulation & Innovation.

This role is a key contributor to the Training Simulation CTO’s mission and vision, and will drive the innovation agenda for future combat air systems by developing advanced system architectures and next-generation synthetic training solutions. Leveraging expertise in Virtual Engineering, XR, and AI, this position will rapidly mature disruptive concepts into functional prototypes and strategic demonstrators. The position is organizational linked to the department TASTS1 “Specification & Acceptance”.

Your tasks:

• Develop and assess innovative solutions in the field of Training and Simulation.

• Apply sound Systems Engineering methods throughout the system lifecycle.

• Define system, solution and reference architectures.

• Design and integrate Virtual Engineering and XR solutions.

• Develop and assess technical and commercial business cases.

• Rapidly mature concepts through prototyping, demonstrators and proofs of concept.

• Plan, conduct and evaluate technical studies and feasibility assessments.

• Support the development and implementation of strategies, roadmaps and technology plans.

• Identify and assess emerging technologies, market trends and cooperation opportunities.

• Provide technical support to business development, capture and proposal activities.

• Collaborate with internal functions, customers, partners, research organizations and suppliers.

• Ensure appropriate consideration of Intellectual Property, Export Control and compliance requirements.

• Support make-or-buy, partnering, product and technology strategy decisions.

Technical Areas:

• Combat Air Systems incl. emerging Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

• Training, Mission Training and Synthetic Training.

• Modelling and Simulation.

• Extended Reality (XR).

• AI for training simulation.

• Virtual Engineering as enabler for Training.

• Networked and distributed simulation systems incl. Distributed Synthetic Training (DST).

• Live, Virtual and Constructive Training (LVC-T).

• Simulation hardware, training devices and technical test & evaluation environments.

• System and software architectures.

• Digital twins and synthetic environments.

• Additional Simulation Services such as Visual Database Generation.

Your profile:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Sciences.

• Minimum of 10 years work experience.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Systems Engineering.

• Experience in Virtual Engineering and applied MBSE.

• Proven ability to develop and evaluate business cases.

• Strong capability in rapid prototyping and demonstrator development.

• Experience in leading or conducting technical studies.

• Ability to translate complex technical challenges into implementable solution concepts.

• Good understanding of technical, commercial and strategic interdependencies.

• Sound understanding of Intellectual Property Rights.

• Understanding of relevant Export Control requirements and processes.

• Understanding of PRC, compliance and internal approval processes within an international corporate environment.

• Experience in working with customers, partners and cross-functional teams.

• Strong analytical, conceptual and communication skills.

• Fluent English.

• German language skills are an advantage.
