Description

To assure the daily, safe, efficient and effective operations of all plant equipment, machinery, vehicles, and plant facilities as well as assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.  

  • Base pay starting at $35.00 per hour

  • $2.00 Shift Differential

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Trade school or Associate's degree related to Industrial Maintenance or similar, or nationally acknowledged certificate in a trade field required.

Experience

  • 7+ years in an industrial manufacturing setting required.

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance checks on equipment required.

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment required.

  • Valid driver's license required.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:

  • Perform advanced Mig, Tig, and Stick welding.

  • Rebuild pumps and valves.

  • Perform ignition and combustion control (boilers).

  • Perform lubricant analysis.

  • Perform vibration checks.

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and work on complex equipment.

  • Performs confined space duties in compliance with company safety practices.

  • Performs hot work.

  • Performs hoist and rigging duties.

  • Initiates and performs corrective electrical/electronic maintenance troubleshooting, replacing, adjusting, and rebuilding electrical, electronic, process control instrumentation, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), or other related systems.

  • Locate and shut off valves and electrical circuits in an emergency.

  • Initiates and performs corrective mechanical maintenance troubleshooting, replacing, adjusting, and rebuilding defective machinery, parts and associated systems. Installs new machinery or related components.

  • Performs diagnostic and fault analysis on electric, electronic, mechanical, process control, pneumatic, pumping, hydraulic and other systems.

  • Plans and performs projects for equipment, instrument, and system upgrade or replacement; conducts project research, planning, designs, working with engineering, vendor or contractor liaison, fabrications, testing, and installations.

  • Respond to on-call emergency repair work or after hours.

ADDITIONAL JOB TASKS:

  • Perform standard exchange replacements on individual wear or outdated components (rail, slide rail, roller, rolls, chains, fuses, belting, etc.)

  • Perform run-off surface descaling (cooling towers).

  • Perform easy settings (pulley alignment, engine alignment).

  • Conduct standard exchange replacement: fuses, belts, air filters, etc.

  • Serve as a mentor for team members and Maintenance Technician Is.

  • Perform preventive maintenance such as inspection, cleaning, lubrication, checking tolerances, and exercising pumps, motors, compressors, instrumentation and metering equipment.

  • Performs new installation reviews and inspections, quality control, punch lists, etc.

  • Dismantle devices such as electrical fixtures, basic plumbing fixtures and/or outlets in order to access, remove, and replace defective parts.

  • Perform routine electrical tasks such as replacing wall switches, maintaining lighting fixtures, ballasts, and circuit switches.

  • Repair, replace and/or maintain 115V convenience outlets and circuits. 

  • Reviews preventive maintenance plans in order to perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of the building does not deteriorate.

  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on all plumbing issues throughout the facility.

  • Repair ceramic, vinyl, and tile floors.

  • Communicates with outside vendors and customers to provide basic customer service and direct persons to appropriate solutions and answers.

  • Perform daily lubrication of parts and equipment, such as motors, pumps, and fans.

  • Perform minor building repairs/updates to include items such as: caulking, installing bulletin boards and signage, light bulb replacement, wall patching and drywall repair repairing and assembling furniture and shelving, repairing of roofing materials, repairing windows, doors, floors, and woodwork.

  • Assist in installing new equipment for facility.

  • Perform condition monitoring rounds / routine equipment checks.

  • Perform manual handling of mechanical elements.

  • Perform filter clogging control.

  • Conduct inventory of spare parts, supplies, repair tools, and replacement parts and communicate levels to Plant Purchasing Manager or other appropriate member of management.

  • Complete reports of time expended and materials used.

  • Complete work order request to log repair work.

  • Perform event setups and take-downs.

  • Complete corrective / preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.

  • Maintain and clean mechanical rooms and equipment.

  • Locate and exercise isolation and shut-off valves.

  • Perform routine plumbing tasks to include items such as: change out or repair flush valve on toilets and keep properly maintained, replacing bathroom fixtures, repairing minor leaks.

  • Paints interior and exterior of the building, clear drainage/sewage stoppages using appropriate equipment and methods.

  • Perform minor HVAC repairs to include items such as: changing belts, filters, or motors.

  • Operate HVAC systems and controls and perform cleaning of refrigeration equipment coils.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Support continuous improvement in all aspects of production.

  • Perform work in accordance with SOP’s, diagrams, drawings, or other maintenance manuals.

  • Operate and utilize a variety of tools and equipment to include items such as: hand and power tools, plungers, drills, skill saws, and grinders.

  • Follow good housekeeping practices for maintenance and production areas such as washing, cleaning and maintaining tools and other equipment.

  • Identify maintenance issues in order to repair/resolve issues or report issues to someone who can repair/resolve them.

  • Work integrally with all employees, customers, and contractors.

  • Operate company vehicle, lifts, Bobcats, forklifts, industrial trucks and non-motorized pallet jacks as required.

  • Assist in ensuring fundamental food safety and quality practices are maintained to achieve food safety and quality objectives and to support ongoing improvements of food safety programs.

  • Actively participate in monthly safety meetings and perform safety audits.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Electrical knowledge ranging from 110 volts of power to 480 volts (3 phase).

  • General and specific knowledge and abilities in welding of different alloys, including stainless steel; and equipment knowledge, including bearings, shaft, bolt, nut, wrench and belt sizes.

  • Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

  • Sustained physical effort required to move through various work area; directing, assisting, diagnosing and monitoring work performance.

  • Must be able to distinguish if food safety violations or product quality issues occur and resolve immediately or, if unable to resolve immediately, contact appropriate plant management (i.e. the Plant Manager and/or the QC Manager).

  • Must be able to understand and comply with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies to assure that environment, health, and safety are first priority. Actively support key safety initiatives and assist the department as needed to improve EHS performance and results.

  • Maintenance personnel directed by Maintenance Supervisor and/or plant management are responsible to assist with duties and tasks in the event of staff absences.

  • Knowledge and ability to:

    • Operate industrial equipment such as hand wrenches, welders, power tools, cutting torch and use tape measure.

    • Operate company vehicle as required and maintain a valid driver’s license

    • Perform basic math calculations

    • Legibly document data for record keeping purposes

    • Read gauges and record data in legible manner in accordance with established procedures

    • Analyze complex information and problem solve

    • Understand wire diagrams, construction plans and diagrams

    • Implement all safety techniques and mandated sanitary rules and regulations in accordance with established policies and procedures related plant and equipment/machinery operations

    • Understand and communicate technical information through use of written documentation or oral presentation

    • Remain calm and professional at all times

    • Interpret and work from oral and written instructions

    • Cooperate with all Essentia team members

    • Work daily and extended hours as necessary to reduce downtime for production needs

    • Analyze and comprehend complex information to assure proper equipment and instructions on safe and proper usage

    • Learn how to operate new equipment/machinery

    • Tear down equipment, repairing and restoring to operation

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:

The working conditions for this job vary; portion of the job duties occur in an indoor manufacturing environment, as well as outside work with varying seasonal temperatures. The working conditions include but are not limited to exposure to many chemicals used during the production process, caustics, cleaning components, temperatures ranging from freezing to extreme heat, high noise levels, tile and concrete floors, moving machinery and equipment, extended work hours, high exposure to dust, fumes, climbing on heights, moving through the facility and grounds to different areas, wet floors, and fumes.
