What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):
Education: (Applicants should meet one of the following qualifications)
- FS I: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HiSET, etc.) required
- FS II: Associates degree in a Mental Health, Human Services or closely related field
- FS III: Bachelor’s degree in a Mental Health, Human Services or closely related field
Experience: (Applicants should meet one of the following experiences)
- FS I: Three (3) years’ experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and families.
- FS II: Two (2) years’ experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and families.
- FS III: One (1) years’ experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and/or families.
License or Certification
- Valid California Driver’s License and maintenance of a driving record that meets the company driver eligibility policy
How you will make a difference (job overview):
The Family Specialist builds trusting relationships with both the child/youth (Youth) and their parent/ caregiver(s) (Caregivers), while providing practical guidance and strategies that address behavioral challenges and support emotional growth. In this role, the Family Specialist also helps uncover unmet needs, teaches coping skills, and bridges gaps to repair relationships and build understanding amongst family members. The Family Specialist engages both the youth and the caregiver(s) to explore behaviors, practice new skills, and create lasting connections. The Family Specialist offers direct behavioral interventions and skill-building for the youth and caregivers. The Family Specialist is the family’s primary behavioral support partner, working in coordination with the youth therapist and the Child and Family Team to support the youth and caregiver(s) in achieving their goals.
Division/Program Overview:
- Programs: Youth consented program
- Population Served: Works with clients aged 12-21 years old.
- Facility & Setting: Community, home-based, and juvenile justice systems (Ranch, juvenile hall)
- Clinical Services: Provides mental health services to youth involved in juvenile and child welfare systems
- Skills & Services: Wraparound approach provides services to entire family. Participates in 24/7 on-call system; pay differential.
