Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Service Representative (PSR) to join our Baystate Primary Care and Pediatrics team in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our practice offices are part of a multi-specialty medical group with nearly 1,000 physicians and advanced practitioners serving patients across more than 60 locations in Western Massachusetts.
The Patient Service Representative role offers the opportunity to work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary care team to perform essential administrative tasks necessary to support patient care. Key responsibilities include patient reception, registration, demographic and insurance verification. This role requires strong customer service skills to interface with patients, families and the multi-disciplinary team.
Patient Service Representative Responsibilities Include:
- Managing the Patient Experience: Greet patients, gather/verify demographics, check for necessary referrals/pre-authorizations.
- Insurance Verification: Request proof of insurance, verify coverage using automated systems.
- Payments: Request, accept, and document co-payments or outstanding account balances.
- Appointments & Schedules: Schedule new/follow-up appointments following practice guidelines
- Check-out: Review patient information at checkout, schedule future visits, provide referrals.
- Communication: Answer/route calls, manage/resolve administrative inbox messages, print orders, letters, or short-form medical records in compliance with HIPAA, prepare documents for scanning and route incoming mail and faxes.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High School Diploma/GED required
- 6-18 months experience preferred (PSR I or II) or 3 years preferred (PSR III)
This position is part of a career ladder, and the appropriate level will be determined by the organization.
Schedule Details
- Job Type: Part-Time, 20 hours per week
- Shift: M-Fri, 8a-2p
- No weekends or holidays
