Department description

Marex has unique access across markets with significant share globally both on and off exchange. This role sits within the Technology department reporting to the Global IT Service Manager. Technology is central to the success of our organisation. The 290+ strong global Technology Department and delivers differentiation, scalability and security for the business. Technology provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and application support teams work in agile ‘streams’ aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, design, enterprise architecture and information security.

The Software Development function creates and maintains applications, frameworks and other software components to deliver to business requirements. Developers conceive, specify, design, engineer, document, test, and deliver bug fixes as needed to provide high quality software solutions. Each Development team is aligned to one of Marex’s business divisions and works for that division under Head of Technology and corresponding Application Support team.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Technology Centre of Excellence Manager, you will lead the Quality Engineering and Assurance capability. Owning the framework, standards and operating model, you will be accountable for ensuring technology quality is effectively governed within a regulated financial-services environment and for driving the transition from manual, downstream QA to an automation-first, continuous and AI-augmented model.

Owning the risk-based, proportionate and auditable Quality Engineering framework, you will define the mandatory testing, traceability, segregation of duties, automated quality gates, evidence and assurance requirements necessary to meet regulatory, SOX, audit, risk and internal control obligations. Delivery squads remain accountable for the quality of the technology they deliver and responsible for test execution, while you will ensure the enterprise framework is effective, consistently adopted and provides appropriate independent assurance and challenge.

Setting and governing engineering standards, tooling and reusable testing patterns, you will enable squads to meet quality requirements efficiently and consistently. This includes increasing automation across testing and evidence generation, embedding quality controls into CI/CD and driving adoption of AI and agentic capabilities, with appropriate human-in-the-loop controls, traceability and governance. Using quality, control and delivery data, you will identify systemic weaknesses and drive corrective action to continuously improve the effectiveness of Quality Engineering across technology delivery.

Responsibilities

Role specific:

  • Own the risk-based, proportionate and auditable Quality Engineering framework and operating model, ensuring its effectiveness and adoption across technology delivery.
  • Define testing, quality gates, traceability, evidence and assurance requirements to meet regulatory, SOX, audit, risk and control obligations.
  • Set Quality Engineering standards, tooling and reusable patterns that enable delivery squads to own and execute quality effectively.
  • Drive automation-first and AI-augmented Quality Engineering, embedding automated testing, evidence generation and appropriate human-in-the-loop controls into delivery.
  • Support the Test for Operational Readiness approach, helping to define the testing and evidence required to demonstrate production readiness.
  • Provide independent quality assurance and challenge, identifying material risks, governing exceptions and driving corrective action.
  • Use quality, control and delivery data to identify systemic weaknesses and continuously improve quality, engineering capability and delivery outcomes.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Quality Engineering leadership : proven ability to own risk-based, proportionate Quality Engineering frameworks, standards and federated operating models
  • Automation-first engineering : strong knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD quality gates, evidence generation and modern software engineering practices
  • Regulated technology assurance : experience of controls, auditability, traceability, segregation of duties and independent assurance within regulated environments
  • Leadership and influence : ability to challenge risk, drive organisational change and influence Engineering, Architecture, Security, Risk, Compliance and senior stakeholders
  • Quality transformation : experience transitioning organisations from centralised/manual QA towards federated, automated and engineering-owned quality

Desirable:

  • AI-augmented Quality Engineering : practical knowledge of AI/agentic approaches to test generation, execution, analysis and assurance
  • Financial-services controls : experience of SOX, technology risk, audit and regulatory requirements within financial services
  • Operational readiness : understanding of non-functional testing, resilience, recoverability, observability, supportability and production readiness
  • Cloud and DevSecOps : practical knowledge of AWS, CI/CD, security testing, cloud-native engineering and controls-as-code
