Summary of Job Duties:
The Director of STEM Career Outreach is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing STEM outreach events and recruitment initiatives designed to attract students to all STEM degree programs within the Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (DCSTEM). This position is governed by state and federal laws and university policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline or related field.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- Master's degree in a STEM discipline or a related field;
- Two years of experience working with students in a STEM environment;
- Two years of experience with student success programs; or
- Four years of experience in student success and/or student retention programs or initiatives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, manage, and oversee all STEM outreach programs and events, including scheduling, promotion, student recruitment and selection, volunteer recruitment, and procurement of materials;
- Collaborate with the Dean's Office to order required materials and assist with budget management;
- Work with the Development Office to identify funding opportunities and secure support for outreach and recruitment activities;
- Coordinate and lead STEM summer camps within the college;
- Maintain and update the college's STEM outreach website as needed;
- Coordinate and manage in-state and out-of-state recruitment efforts by:
- Scheduling and attending college fairs;
- Participating in career days at middle and high schools;
- Managing STEM outreach events and programs; and
- Coordinating campus visits for prospective students and school groups.
- Attend strategically selected college fairs and recruitment events to promote DCSTEM programs;
- Assist with the development, implementation, and management of STEM bridge programs;
- Create and provide content for STEM-related social media platforms to support outreach, recruitment, and undergraduate student engagement;
- Collaborate with external partners and community organizations to coordinate outreach events and programs;
- Collect, analyze, and report data and statistics related to DCSTEM recruitment and outreach activities;
- Assist in developing new outreach and recruitment initiatives to improve program effectiveness and increase student enrollment;
- Develop and enhance recruitment materials and promotional programs for all DCSTEM academic programs;
- Partner with Arkansas school districts to increase and diversify the pool of qualified STEM applicants;
- Collaborate with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Communications and Marketing Office to identify and procure innovative promotional materials for prospective students and their families while maintaining an adequate inventory of recruitment materials;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Strong organizational and project management skills;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships and networks;
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, counselors, business leaders, faculty, donors, and university administrators;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Suite, MARQ, and Workday;
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license;
- Ability to travel both within Arkansas and out of state as required.
