Job Description:
Title: Senior Software Developer for Analytics
Location: Remote – UK
Reports to: Senior Manager, Software Development for Analytics
Vacancy: Existing vacancy
The Role:
We're looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our Analytics engineering team. You'll design the technical solutions that turn rich automotive and consumer datasets into products and insights our global customers can rely on.
The Impact You Will Have in This Role:
At J.D. Power, we're global leaders in consumer insights, advisory services, and data analytics. In this role you'll design the solutions that connect our data pipelines, models, and user experiences into one coherent product, working on a modern cloud data platform such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Palantir Foundry. You'll drive the engineering plan for complex feature areas, lead code and design reviews, and work closely with data scientists and AI engineers to get prototypes into production. Mentoring the engineers around you is a big part of the job too.
What You’ll Be Doing in This Role:
Design the technical solutions that tie together data pipelines, models, and user-facing experiences into one coherent product.
Break complex analytics or AI feature areas down into clear engineering plans, and flag technical risks before they become problems.
Lead code and design reviews, helping the team sharpen its approach to architecture, structure, and testing.
Work closely with data scientists, AI engineers, and product managers to shape experiments and turn promising prototypes into production-ready systems.
Mentor junior engineers, sharing what you know about system design, debugging, and talking to stakeholders.
Take ownership of end-to-end analytical solution design - data contracts, feature stores, model endpoints, client integration - on a modern cloud data platform such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Palantir Foundry.
Bring solid business judgement to architecture and tooling decisions, weighing cost, risk, and value rather than just technical elegance.
Keep an eye on where analytics and AI platforms are heading and recommend when it's worth adopting something new.
Choose the right integration pattern for the problem at hand and run small proofs of concept to test whether an idea will scale.
Decide when to build versus reuse, and how far to trade experimentation speed against reliability - calls that ripple out to the products other teams and customers depend on.
Communicate effectively with senior engineers, data scientists, and product partners so that everyone is aligned with business, product, and technical direction.
Qualifications of this Role:
Required Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) plus around 8 years of relevant software development experience - or 6 years with a Master's, or 3 with a PhD. Equivalent experience is also welcome.
A track record of owning delivery on complex, multi-team software or data engineering work.
Desirable Experience
Background in automotive, consumer insights, or analytics-driven SaaS.
Experience mentoring engineers and running technical design reviews.
Required Technical Skills
Strong Python, SQL, and Git skills, with real experience running production data pipelines.
Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data platform - Snowflake, Databricks, Palantir Foundry, or something similar.
Comfortable with JavaScript/TypeScript and React for building the applications and interfaces that customers will use.
Experience designing data architectures that scale, and a good handle on integration patterns like ETL/ELT and batch or streaming.
Desirable Technical Skills
PySpark or a similar distributed data processing framework.
CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling (logging, alerting, monitoring), and infrastructure-as-code.
Experience working with cloud infrastructure, in either Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Some exposure to putting AI/ML models into production analytics use cases.
Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and data visualization libraries.
Desirable Competencies
Equally comfortable thinking strategically and getting hands-on - you don't need much oversight to drive a complex feature area forward.
A natural mentor who enjoys raising the bar for the people around you.
A clear communicator, at ease explaining technical trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike.
Decisive under ambiguity, without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Collaborative and easy to work with - you build trust quickly with data science, AI engineering, and product partners.
The Hiring Manager says:
I'm looking for someone who can take a complex feature area and turn it into a plan the rest of the team can rally behind. You should enjoy leading code and design reviews and get real satisfaction from mentoring engineers as they grow. I want someone who partners closely with our data scientists and AI engineers to get prototypes into production, asks good questions early, and never loses sight of the bigger picture.
