Job Summary
As a R&D dispersion chemist you will primary serve as a technical leader in pigment dispersion science and technology development. This role is responsible for innovation in dispersion formulation, solve complex formulation and scale-up problems at the intersection of pigment/dispersant chemistry, colloidal stabilization, process engineering, analytical interpretation, and ink performance. The successful candidate will help shape next-generation technologies for HP’s pigment ink portfolio, translating deep technical understanding into scalable, manufacturable, and competitive solutions.
You will be expected to lead complex development programs, mentor chemists and collaborate with cross-functional partners including ink formulation, manufacturing, analytical and business teams to deliver competitive and scalable dispersion technologies.
Responsibilities
Lead advanced dispersion development programs from concept through manufacturing implementation.
Identify emerging technologies, materials, and process innovations that create competitive advantage.
Lead complex dispersion-ink related development, issues across multiple product platforms.
Lead dispersion process development across laboratory, pilot and manufacturing scale-up methodologies.
Apply colloidal science, surface chemistry, rheology, and stabilization principles to optimize dispersion formulation, process and post-processing technologies.
Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure successful technology transfer and production readiness.
Design hypothesis-driven experiments using DOE and statistical tools. Interpret complex datasets to establish cause-effect relationships and accelerate development.
Translate experimental/analytical/statistical findings into actionable technical strategies and guide development and business decisions.
Cross functional collaboration with analytical, ink formulation teams, manufacturing , supply chain organizations and external suppliers.
Lead technical reviews and communicate recommendations to management and stakeholders.
Influence strategic decisions related to materials, suppliers, technology platforms, and product development.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to develop the technical capabilities of other chemists.
Drive capability development within the Dispersion Center of Excellence.
Operate with a high degree of independence, exercise sound scientific judgment, and influence technical direction through data-driven insights.
Education
Ph. D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related field.
Experience
8-10+ years of industrial R&D experience in:
Pigment, dye or dispersion chemistry
Polymers in solution
Wet chemistry or ink formulation development
Colloidal/ Interface chemistry
Demonstrated success leading complex research and technology development programs from concept through commercialization.
Demonstrated ability to design and analyze multivariable formulation/process experiments using DOE and statistical tools and translate data into clear technical recommendations.
Proven experience with leading formulation studies, technical investigations, or project workstreams, transfer and manufacturing scale-up.
Demonstrated leadership, take ownership of technical problems and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Strong written and spoken communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Inkjet printing technology and color science.
Hands-on experience developing aqueous dispersions, inks, coatings, paints, colorants, or other particle-stabilized formulation systems.
Manufacturing process development and scale-up.
Intellectual property generation and patent development.
Demonstrated analytical and empirical problem-solving skills.
Global technical leadership and mentoring.
