Role Description: Huitt-Zollars is growing and we’re seeking entrepreneurial and like-minded Interior Designer/Interior Architect in both our Orlando and Los Angeles offices, who share a desire to lead interior design focused project work and processes in achieving high-quality design, development, and documentation.  Both HZ Orlando and Los Angeles are looking for talented candidates with proven project experience through projects and practice, whose experience includes themed entertainment, hospitality, and commercial projects. We are actively recruiting uniquely talented candidates that understand creative and themed design development process and design development, transforming concepts and storylines into technically sound design packages, and constructable solutions for our clients. Candidates are passionate and experienced in guest-centric design that understands and delivers on guest experiences.
 

In this role, you will collaborate with office principals, architects, and designers, while having responsibility for interior focused design works in partnership with the project manager and project architect.  Your previous experience should demonstrate an understanding of the design steps and flows for the design development and documentation of entertainment and hospitality focused experiences and projects. Location: Orlando, Florida & Los Angeles, CA

Employment Type: 40 FT Hours

Registrations: Licensed Architect or Registered Interior Designer in Florida, or eligible for reciprocity 

Compensation Type: Salary

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in interior Architecture, Interior Design, or Architecture from a NAAB accredited program


Duties:  

  • With senior level input, lead assignments that include conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration ability and interest in full project delivery. 
  • Think, analyze, plan, test, ideate, and design is a norm for project development.
  • Lead and support the development of design concepts, programming, space planning, and detailing.
  • Ensure design continuity across all project phases while aligning with project goals, budgets, codes, and client expectations.
  • Present design ideas clearly and effectively to clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee day-to-day design activities on assigned projects, coordinating closely with team members across disciplines and office locations.
  • Review and produce high-quality design and construction documents, including drawings, renderings, material boards, and specifications.
  • Participate in site visits, submittal reviews, and construction phase support, ensuring adherence to design intent and quality standards.
  • Support the Project Manager in tracking schedules, deliverables, and project performance.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to elevate overall team performance and design excellence, promote shared learning and success.
  • Support and nurture client relationships in a professional and valued manner.  
  • Actively seek to promote and develop positive culture and ideas daily, and open to collaborating across offices to build a positive culture.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in design, documentation, and construction of interior architecture and/or architectural projects, with a strong focus on commercial entertainment and hospitality work. 
  • Natural collaborator, seeking high quality and best ideas for our clients.
  • Skilled in presenting design concepts, ideas, technical rationales and solutions.
  • Confidence and experience in client meetings, discussions, and ability to take positions relative to project and scope decisions, able to represent the design and team ideas and work product.
  • Experience and versed in using interior tools such as story, mood, material, imagery, for the purpose of exploration and communication of ideas and selections for interior design. 
  • Experience and versed in scope, schedule, budget project parameters and metrics, with clear understanding of workplan objectives. 
  • Technology proficiency to actively lead design and innovation, with proficiency in platforms including Office, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, In-Design, Photoshop, Rhino, Adobe, and similar.
  • Knowledge and experience in building code, life safety, ADA, Comprehensive understanding of codes, materials, systems, detailing, and sustainable practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in interior/architecture process, phases of building design, and desire to continue professional growth.
  • Strong desire to grow as a leader, contribute to office culture, and be part of building a collaborative and creative team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work that requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires one to be adaptable to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
