SUMMARY
The City of Charlotte is a leader in arboriculture, tree management, and urban forest management efforts to support City Council's interest in a robust tree canopy. This position is based in the Landscape Management Division of the General Services Department and is responsible for assisting crews in maintaining and preserving City street trees.We are offering a $2,000 sign on bonus.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform young tree maintenance, including structural pruning and removal of dead or damaged limbs from the ground using hand saws, pole saws, chainsaws, chipper, and other related arboricultural/tree trimming tools. May be required to use a bucket truck for tree trimming activities.
Safely operate and maintain pruning equipment, hand tools, and other arboricultural equipment.
Mentor the Landscape Crew Member in the City Arborist Group.
Assist daily in all ground operations including chipping brush, flagging traffic, and cleaning up the job site.
Ensure safe and clean work zones; provide traffic control when required per NCDOT and CDOT WATCH Handbook guidelines.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition; report repairs or replacements as needed.
Interact courteously and professionally with residents, community partners, and other City staff while representing the City Arborist Group in the field.
Work cooperatively with team members to complete assignments safely and efficiently.
Work outdoors year-round in varied and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
Participate in on-call program and emergency storm cleanup.
Support the arborist education and outreach team by participating in public demonstrations, school events, and community programs related to tree care and environmental stewardship.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledgeable in all safety procedures for both equipment and personnel, ANSI and OSHA Standards
Good driving record; valid North Carolina Class B CDL driver's license with air brake endorsement or South Carolina CDL equivalent or able to obtain within 90 days (Required)
Minimum one to three years of experience in tree maintenance operations
Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of products and methods relating to arboriculture, horticulture or other related fields
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in tree maintenance operations
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
