Status: Part-Time | Reports To: COO | FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The School Age Child Care (SACC) Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for all YMCA Before and After School programs. This role ensures safe, high-quality, mission-driven programming that complies with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations while supporting children's academic, social-emotional, and physical development.

The Director supervises two Program Directors and provides indirect leadership to approximately 30 staff across multiple program sites. Working with schools, families, community partners, and YMCA leadership, the Director develops innovative programming, strengthens partnerships, supports enrollment growth, pursues funding opportunities, and ensures equitable access to enriching out-of-school experiences.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Program Management

• Provide strategic leadership for all Before and After School programs.
• Develop and implement annual program goals aligned with the YMCA's mission and community needs.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate two Program Directors.
• Ensure consistent quality, safety, and operations across multiple sites.
• Foster an inclusive, positive culture for children, families, and staff.
• Use enrollment data, observations, and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement.
• Support program growth, sustainability, and equitable access.

Operations & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with OCFS regulations, YMCA policies, and school district requirements.
• Maintain licensing, safety procedures, emergency plans, attendance, incident reports, and required documentation.
• Oversee background clearances, staff records, inspections, and program readiness.
• Manage the purchasing of program supplies and equipment.

Staff Leadership

• Lead approximately 30 staff through a tiered management structure.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, evaluate, and retain staff.
• Develop annual training plans and ensure completion of required OCFS training and certifications.
• Promote collaboration, accountability, innovation, and professional growth.

Program Quality

• Oversee engaging, age-appropriate programming that includes:
  • Academic support and homework help
  • STEM/STEAM
  • Arts and creative expression
  • Social-emotional learning
  • Leadership development
  • Physical activity and healthy living
  • Cultural enrichment and life skills
• Evaluate program quality using observations, participation, and family feedback to drive improvements.

Family & Community Engagement

• Build strong relationships with families through regular communication and engagement events.
• Collect and use family and student feedback to strengthen programming.
• Develop partnerships with schools, community organizations, higher education, businesses, and enrichment providers.
• Represent the YMCA at community meetings and school events.

Resource Development & Fiscal Management

• Pursue grants, sponsorships, and funding opportunities.
• Collaborate on fundraising initiatives.
• Develop and monitor program budgets while ensuring responsible use of YMCA resources.
• Support long-term program sustainability and growth.

Professional Development

• Complete at least 15 hours of annual SACC-specific professional development plus all required YMCA training.
• Stay current with youth development best practices and OCFS regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Human Services, or related field; or 18 related college credits.
• Experience managing licensed School Age Child Care or comparable youth programs.
• Knowledge of New York State OCFS regulations and licensing requirements.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience building partnerships with schools, families, and community organizations.
• Fundraising or resource development experience preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, and required certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities with children.
• Lift to 30 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, and move throughout program sites for extended periods.
• Travel between multiple YMCA program locations.
