With a $7 billion asset base and services spanning 1.5 million residents and more than 31,000 commercial customers across South East Queensland, we are committed to enhancing the liveability of our communities every day.
Your Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Specialist Solution Architect to join our Digital & Information group and help shape secure, scalable and sustainable technology solutions across Urban Utilities.
Reporting to the Solution Design and Assurance Lead, you’ll provide specialist architectural expertise across complex business and technology initiatives.
You’ll work closely with business leaders, delivery teams and technical specialists to understand requirements, evaluate options and develop solution architectures that support agreed business outcomes.
As a trusted subject matter expert, you’ll provide technical guidance and assurance throughout the solution lifecycle, helping ensure designs are practical, secure and aligned with Urban Utilities’ strategies, standards and broader technology environment.
What You’ll Deliver
- Lead the development of solution architectures across specific business, infrastructure or functional areas.
- Translate business needs and strategic priorities into clear architectural models, patterns and solution designs.
- Provide technical guidance and governance throughout solution design, development, integration and implementation.
- Design and review large or complex systems, balancing functional requirements with security, performance, reliability and other non-functional requirements.
- Assess architecture options, design trade-offs, technology risks and change requests, providing clear recommendations to support decision-making.
- Design and guide complex system integrations, supporting effective data exchange and interaction between systems and components.
- Ensure information security, risk, compliance and information management requirements are embedded within solution designs.
- Maintain strong relationships across business and technical stakeholder groups, supporting alignment and informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of architecture frameworks, standards, roadmaps, tools, governance and knowledge-sharing practices.
About You
You’re an experienced architecture professional who can move confidently between business needs, technical detail and enterprise-level considerations.
You’re comfortable working through complexity and ambiguity, and can explain technical concepts in a clear and practical way to a broad range of stakeholders.
You’ll also bring:
- Significant experience in solution architecture or a closely related technology role, ideally across application and/or infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of systems design, system integration, information security, architecture governance and technology risk management.
- Demonstrated experience developing solution architectures for complex systems and assessing major design options and trade-offs.
- The ability to translate business strategies, requirements and challenges into practical and scalable technology solutions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build alignment between business, delivery and technical teams.
- A Bachelor’s or postgraduate qualification in Information Technology or a related field.
- TOGAF Practitioner accreditation or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant technical certifications across areas such as Microsoft, cloud, networking, cyber security, integration, enterprise applications, operational technology or the Internet of Things.
This position is subject to relevant security clearance and Security of Critical Infrastructure requirements.
