The Water Utility is searching for our next One Call Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for specialized technical work involving both field and office activities. This position coordinates the Water Utility's response to requests processed through the Statewide One Call Program for the location and marking of all underground water installations throughout the City as assigned. The employee also works with contractors and the public to ensure understanding and that established procedures are being followed in the lead replacement program. The work is performed under the limited supervision of a Public Works General Supervisor and involves prioritizing requests, locating and marking installations or making assignments to other staff, and coordinating public contacts relative to one call requests.

  • Use Kortera software to review one call location requests; assess workloads and prioritize the location of underground utilities. Coordinate with the Public Works General Supervisor in relation to workload to assign work as needed.
  • Use Cityworks or GT Viewer software to locate and mark One Call request, per established codes, of all underground installments of the utility to include: water mains, services, hydrant leads, curb stops and valves.
  • Act as liaison between Madison Water Utility and contractors when discrepancies are found in the location and marking of underground installations.
  • Use Cityworks software to write up work orders or service requests for needed repairs in the Distribution System. Document discrepancies found in the field and submit to Water Utility Engineering for correction as needed.
  • Coordinate with plumbing contractors regarding the Lead Replacement program. 
  • Inspect the contractor job site, confirming that the established procedures are being followed.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Two (2) years of directly related experience in the construction and/or maintenance of underground water utilities.
OR
  • Two (2) years of directly related experience in the location of underground utilities. 
OR
  • Two (2) years of applying the following:
    • GIS mapping system.
    • Field surveying equipment and methods.
    • Underground utility installations.
    • Lead replacement program and procedures.
    • Computer software applicable to the duties of the position, including the "one-call" system.

Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
 
Physical Requirements:
 
Employees in this position must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) such as utility access covers.  Ability to often lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds such as valve keys and Metrotech Pipe Locator.  Ability to walk over uneven terrain, paved or unpaved surfaces to locate and mark location requests. Ability to use hand tools.  Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.  Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
