Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriting Assistant, E&S Excess Casualty. The position is for our New York City, Alpharetta or Dallas Office, reporting to the VP, Underwriting Support Manager, E&S Casualty.
Our seasoned U.S. E&S Excess Casualty team applies significant expertise and creativity to complete placements. Leveraging our relationships with appointed wholesale brokers, we provide meaningful capacity, a consistent underwriting approach and timely coverage and claims responses.

What you will be doing:
- Responsible new and renewal submissions, review documentation, and prepare files for quoting.
- Provide administrative and operational support to Underwriters throughout the quote, bind, policy issuance and endorsement process.
- Coordinate with brokers to obtain outstanding information, documentation, and subjectivities necessary.
- Review and adhere to applicable Surplus Lines regulations and state-specific requirements.
- Create, register, process and distribute binders, policies and endorsements in accordance with established SLAs.
- Prepare policies accurately and in accordance with final binders, ensuring all documentation has been reviewed and approved by appropriate underwriting staff.
- Maintain a high level of service and professionalism, contributing to a field service reputation recognized as exceptional in the industry.
- Review and analyse facultative reinsurance certificates and related documentation is completed accurately, as directed by management.
- Maintain accurate, organized and audit-ready underwriting files and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with Underwriters, fellow Underwriting Assistants, brokers, and internal business partners to ensure timely and accurate completion of account activities.
- Provide coverage and workflow support to other Underwriting Assistants as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and support the overall effectiveness of your role.
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 4+ years’ experience as a Senior Underwriting Assistant with similar duties
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Adobe Acrobat
- Able to multi-task and communicate well
- Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
Salary Range: $60,000-$105,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
