Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Work Control Planner 4 to support ongoing operations in Los Alamos, NM.

 

The Work Planner 4 develops and/or reviews work packages including time, material, and labor estimates, written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, and/or safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification of work activities within a given facility or area. Specific planning duties may be related to mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological equipment, policies, and procedures and may also include resolving work restraints and bringing work packages to final closure.

Responsibilities

  • Makes safety and security an integral part of every task; maintains required training and stops work when conditions are unsafe or compromise security.
  • Prepares, reviews, and issues work packages for complex equipment or system modifications, corrective maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
  • Analyzes labor, material, and scheduling requirements for complex work activities.
  • Develops detailed material specifications and labor estimates.
  • Leads the development of detailed, step-by-step work instructions.
  • Manages and expedites work packages according to established priorities.
  • Prepares and reviews instructions for isolating, containing, or de-energizing complex mechanical, electrical, physical, chemical, and radiological systems.
  • Coordinates supporting work-control activities, including:
    • Permit development
    • Testing requirements
    • Documentation and records management
    • Database information entry, maintenance, retrieval, and review
    • Training requirements
  • Ensures work-control activities comply with Laboratory procedures, industry regulations, and applicable governance.
  • Verifies that work-control processes, materials, results, and final products meet established quality requirements.
  • Prepares and presents work-control reports.
  • Researches complex work-control and planning problems, evaluates alternative solutions, and recommends appropriate action.
  • Communicates major elements of complex work-control plans to technical and nontechnical personnel.
  • Works independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Provides functional and operational direction to maintenance, operations-support, or clerical employees when assigned.
  • Coordinates regularly with maintenance and operations management, engineers, technicians, and other facility personnel.
  • Promotes a respectful, inclusive workplace free from discrimination and harassment.

Education Requirements

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Qualifications

  • At least 12 years of experience and specialized knowledge in complex work control, materials management, and/or mechanical maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Work hazards and safety practices
    • Facility operating configurations
    • Lockout/tagout policies and procedures
    • Laboratory work-control and facility policies, practices, and procedures
    • Legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting work control and planning
  • In-depth ability to interpret complex mechanical and electrical documents, including blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Advanced ability to use and manage computerized work-management systems to maintain and track work-planning activities.
  • Extensive experience researching complex problems, investigating alternative solutions, and making recommendations.
  • Ability to conceptualize and clearly communicate complex work-control and planning requirements to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Exceptional skill in preparing and presenting work-control reports.
  • Ability to work independently and self-supervise with minimal functional or operational direction.
  • Ability to provide functional direction to assigned support personnel.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering, technical, and facility-management personnel.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. 
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check. 
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred. 
  • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience. 

Work Schedule

Shift will be dependent upon customer site discretion.
