Location: Henderson, WA, 6166
Salary Package: $125k + Super
Role Highlights: Join ASC's growing SSN Sustainment program in a commercially focused Project Accountant role combining financial accounting, analysis and business partnering. Work closely with project teams and non-financial stakeholders while supporting a significant and growing program.
Role Overview
This Project Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial performance of ASC's growing SSN Sustainment program.
Combining financial accounting, analysis and business partnering, you'll be responsible for ensuring financial information is accurate, up to date and meaningful to the project teams relying on it. You'll work across month-end, forecasting, reconciliations, project costs, invoicing, cash flow, contract requirements and financial analysis.
A significant part of the role is understanding the story behind the numbers. You'll work closely with Cost Account Managers, Project and Program Managers and other non-financial stakeholders, helping them understand financial processes, improve the quality of financial information and make better-informed decisions.
This is an ideal opportunity for an accountant who enjoys more than traditional accounting and wants to take a genuinely commercial and investigative approach to their work.
Responsibilities
- Manage the financial performance and accounting requirements of the SSN Sustainment program
- Prepare accurate and timely program reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis
- Complete monthly reconciliations and review financial information for accuracy and completeness
- Analyse project costs and investigate the detail behind financial results
- Support monthly forecasting and quarterly Estimate at Completion (EAC) reviews
- Manage invoicing, debtor management and program cash flow requirements
- Apply contract requirements including indexation and foreign exchange considerations
- Support contract true-ups, audits and ad-hoc financial analysis
- Partner with Cost Account Managers, Project Managers, Capability Managers and other non-financial stakeholders
- Provide guidance to stakeholders around financial processes, purchase orders and the capture of financial information
- Translate financial information into clear and practical insights for non-financial audiences
- Investigate issues, understand root causes and proactively develop solutions
- Contribute to process improvements and best-practice financial practices
- Ensure compliance with ASC policies, procedures, accounting standards and relevant legislation
- Support the broader Project Finance team and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing environment
Candidate Profile
You are an experienced Accountant with 5+ years' accounting experience, ideally gained within a mid-to-large organisation or complex commercial environment. You bring strong financial management capability and are comfortable working across accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
You're naturally curious and investigative. Rather than simply processing information, you want to understand how the numbers have been generated, what is driving the result and what it means for the business.
Strong Excel capability is essential, including the ability to work confidently with large datasets and functions such as INDEX/MATCH, VLOOKUP and SUMIFS. Experience with IFS, Power BI and other ERP or financial systems will be highly regarded.
You'll also be a confident business partner who enjoys working with people. You can communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders, adapt your communication style to different audiences and build strong relationships across project and finance teams.
Project accounting experience is highly regarded, as is previous exposure to defence, marine, complex contracts, international labour or similar environments. CA/CPA qualification or part qualification is preferred.

This is an opportunity to join ASC's growing SSN Sustainment program at an exciting point in its development. You'll be part of a relaxed, supportive and high-performing Project Finance team while working closely with stakeholders across the broader program.
