Description

The City of Dalton Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator. This is a full-time position in the Public Works Sanitation Department with a starting pay rate to be determined based on experience. In this role you will operate a variety of commercial machinery, equipment, and vehicles, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, street sweepers, and recycling and garbage trucks, to ensure safe, efficient waste collection and disposal while navigating tight residential or commercial areas. Curbside recycling collection involves hand sorting, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of moderately heavy objects. Must have the physical ability to lift up to 50 – 100 pounds occasionally and 25 – 50 pounds frequently, climb in and out of heavy equipment, and work outside in all weather conditions including, hot, cold, rain, storms or snow. A heavy equipment operator will occasionally assist ground crews when necessary and may be needed to participate in seasonal or emergency Public Works operations such as leaf and storm cleanups or facilitating in the application of salt brine. Pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections are also required to check fluid levels, tire pressure, leaks, etc. and to promptly report any issues found. Applicants MUST have a valid Class “B” or “A” Commercial Driver’s License, pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen, and remain subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
