License Specialist II - City Clerk

In this position, you will play a vital role in streamlining the city’s business licensing process, handling everything from application processing to financial transactions. Your responsibilities will include preparing crucial reports, managing comprehensive license files, and facilitating general business licensing activities. You'll engage with various stakeholders, run background checks, and ensure compliance with City Code, all while serving as a key liaison for the City Clerk’s Office.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a License Specialist II, you will:
  • Process general business license paperwork and payments
  • Prepare various licensing reports, memoranda, and correspondence for the City Clerk's Office
  • Maintain electronic and paper business license files with associated compliance tracking and follow-up
  • Assist with general business licensing activities for the City Clerk's Office, including the collection of required insurance forms, bonds, and other required documents
  • Run applicant background investigation check and prepare files for background review
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders including the public on general business licensing 
  • Serve as a liaison with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies, representing the City Clerk
  • Correspond regularly with general business licensees to ensure compliance with the City Code
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned to ensure the smooth running of the department, including periodic municipal election-related assignments

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of business letter writing, basic report preparation, and cash-handling procedures
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Ability to interpret, explain, and apply pertinent city, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to flexibly process shifting priorities in a fast-paced, detailed, and customer-oriented setting

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
