Gretchen's House Child Care Centers are seeking a dynamic individual to support our after-school program on the northside of Ann Arbor. Regular work hours are 3-5:15, Monday through Friday. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a fun and supportive work environment where they can make a difference in the lives of young children.
Purpose
To cooperate in providing a warm and nurturing, quality school age environment in which each child can grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially.
Learning Environment
- Maintains a safe and healthy environment.
- Helps to maintain space that includes divided interest areas that are defined and clearly marked. (low shelves and furniture, carpeting) and labeled (e.g. toy area, house area, book area)
- Helps to ensure daily use of outside areas as a normal part of the daily routine.
- Helps to maintain an outdoor play area that is free of health and safety hazards.
- Helps to ensure that the outdoor play area includes both stationary and portable equipment and material for various types of play.
- Is supportive of allowing children easy access of (non-dangerous) materials that are accessible to them without the assistance of a teacher.
- Provides consistent opportunities for large muscle activities.
- Helps to maintain materials that reflect home and community cultures and special needs of children in the classroom. (ex. Photos of family members, cooking utensils, music tapes, work clothes, tools)
- Helps to maintain materials that depict a wide range of non-stereotyped role models and cultures and incorporate them into classroom areas.
Requirements
- Appropriate Attendance
- Proficiency with Microsoft excel, word other computer skills as needed.
- Organizational skills relating to time management, space arrangement, prioritizing tasks
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers and families
- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability
- Sensitive to the individual needs of families
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
- Evidence of sufficient judgment to handle crisis situations
- Knowledge of rules, regulations and standards
- Knowledge of child development
- Ability to seek supervision and use it constructively
- Reliable transportation to get to and from work
