Description
Pot Station Attendant
The Pot Station Attendant is responsible for safely assisting with slag pot dumping operations, monitoring and maintaining slag cooling areas, supporting metal recovery processing operations, and conducting inspections of slag pots after dumping. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring efficient slag handling and processing operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and direct the slag pot carrier as it backs into the dump station.
- Observe and monitor the dumping of slag pots from a safe distance in accordance with all safety procedures.
- Be prepared to respond to and extinguish tire fires on pot carriers if they occur.
- Water and cool the slag pit following dumping operations.
- Monitor pit digging activities after slag has cooled, ensuring safe excavation of slag pits.
- Maintain proper watering and cooling of slag piles designated for processing through the metal recovery plant.
- Inspect slag pots after dumping to identify damage, wear, or conditions requiring maintenance or repair.
- Communicate operational and safety concerns to supervisors and team members.
- Follow all company safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in assigned work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around high-temperature materials.
- Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
- Ability to communicate effectively with equipment operators and supervisors.
- Previous experience in steel mill, slag processing, heavy equipment, or industrial operations is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work near heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ability to work day, night, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Schedule
- Four (4) positions providing 24/7 coverage.
- 12-hour shifts:
- Day Shift: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Night Shift: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- Rotating schedule with employees alternating between day and night shifts every two weeks unless all crew members mutually agree to remain on steady shifts.
- Employees typically receive:
- Two (2) 36-hour pay periods per month
- Two (2) 48-hour pay periods per month
- Additional hours may be available through overtime opportunities.
