Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Fire & Life Safety Engineer/Inspector to join our team!
The Fire & Life Safety Engineer / Inspector will be responsible for providing technical oversight, inspection, testing, and compliance verification for Fire & Life Safety systems across the project. The role will ensure that FLS installations are executed in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, applicable fire codes and standards, Civil Defense requirements, and client requirements.
The position will coordinate closely with Engineering, Construction, Quality, HSE, Commissioning, ICT/ELV teams, specialist contractors, vendors, consultants, and Airport Operations to ensure that fire protection and life safety systems are properly installed, tested, integrated, commissioned, and handed over.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Review and inspect Fire & Life Safety systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, method statements, and applicable codes.
- Conduct site inspections and verify the quality and compliance of FLS installations.
- Review approved shop drawings, coordinated drawings, material submittals, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Inspect installation of fire alarm, fire detection, sprinkler, hydrant, hose reel, fire pump, fire suppression, smoke control, emergency lighting, and other life safety systems, as applicable.
- Verify fire alarm devices including smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, sounders, strobes, modules, panels, and associated devices.
- Inspect fire suppression systems including sprinkler networks, clean agent systems, water mist, foam, or other specialist systems where applicable.
- Inspect fire water systems including fire pumps, jockey pumps, fire tanks, hydrants, hose reels, valves, and associated pipework.
- Verify installation of fire-rated equipment, fire stopping, fire doors, fire-rated penetrations, and passive fire protection systems.
- Inspect emergency lighting, exit signage, evacuation systems, and other life safety provisions.
- Verify installation of FLS systems against approved layouts, coverage requirements, equipment locations, and design criteria.
- Review and verify hydraulic calculations, flow requirements, pressure requirements, and system zoning where applicable.
- Verify pipework installation, supports, hangers, sleeves, valves, fittings, and identification.
- Inspect fire alarm and life safety system cabling, containment, interfaces, labeling, and termination.
- Coordinate FLS interfaces with BMS, ICT, Security, Access Control, HVAC, Electrical, Elevators, and other building systems.
- Verify cause-and-effect requirements and system interfaces.
- Witness and inspect pressure testing, flushing, hydrostatic testing, flow testing, alarm testing, functional testing, and other required tests.
- Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and verification of fire and life safety system interfaces.
- Verify fire alarm cause-and-effect sequences and emergency response scenarios.
- Inspect and verify fire pump performance testing and associated fire water system testing.
- Review testing and commissioning procedures and test results.
- Verify calibration certificates for relevant testing and measurement equipment.
- Raise Inspection Requests (IRs), Site Inspection Reports, Quality Observations, and NCRs where required.
- Identify non-compliant installations and coordinate corrective actions with contractors.
- Monitor closure of FLS-related NCRs, punch-list items, and inspection findings.
- Review contractor and specialist vendor technical submittals for compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with approved specialist contractors and manufacturers during installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Support authority inspections and approvals, including coordination with Saudi Civil Defense and other relevant authorities where applicable.
- Participate in inspections with the Client, Consultant, Civil Defense, Airport Operations, and other stakeholders.
- Review and verify FLS system documentation prior to final acceptance.
- Verify that installed systems match approved as-built drawings and final design requirements.
- Review commissioning records, test certificates, inspection reports, equipment certificates, and maintenance documentation.
- Support preparation of FLS handover dossiers, O&M manuals, testing records, and final acceptance documentation.
- Participate in FLS technical meetings and provide inspection and compliance updates.
- Coordinate with HSE teams to ensure fire and emergency systems support project emergency response requirements.
- Identify FLS design, installation, and interface risks and escalate issues to the responsible engineering team.
- Provide technical recommendations to resolve installation and compliance issues.
- Support fire safety inspections and readiness assessments prior to occupancy or operational handover.
- Ensure all FLS activities comply with applicable NFPA, IBC, IFC, BS, EN, Saudi Building Code, Civil Defense, and project-specific requirements, as applicable.
- Support lessons learned and continuous improvement within the FLS function.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Fire & Life Safety engineering, inspection, testing, or commissioning.
- Proven experience on major airport, infrastructure, commercial, industrial, or large-scale building projects.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems.
- Experience in inspection, testing, commissioning, and quality verification of FLS systems.
- Experience working with specialist fire protection contractors, consultants, vendors, and authorities.
- Airport / aviation experience is highly preferred.
- NFPA certifications / training are highly preferred.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) is an advantage.
- NICET certification is an advantage.
- Civil Defense-approved / recognized fire safety qualifications are preferred.
- NEBOSH / IOSH or relevant HSE certification is an advantage.
- Relevant testing and commissioning certification is preferred.
