Role Highlights:
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to take ownership of a standalone payroll function within a stable and well-established business. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will manage payroll for more than 300 employees across manufacturing, distribution and corporate operations.
This role will suit an experienced payroll professional looking for autonomy, ownership and long-term stability. Candidates who have previously worked in standalone payroll positions and are confident managing complex payroll environments independently will be highly regarded.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will take full responsibility for the end-to-end processing of both weekly and monthly payrolls across a workforce of more than 300 employees. Your responsibilities will include payroll processing, payroll tax, superannuation, reconciliations, compliance reporting, employee maintenance and responding to payroll enquiries across the business. You'll work closely with Finance, HR and operational stakeholders to ensure payroll is delivered accurately and on time.
This is a genuine standalone position where you will be the payroll subject matter expert for the business. As such, this role requires someone who has previously managed payroll independently and is comfortable taking ownership of all payroll-related responsibilities. The successful candidate will enjoy a high level of autonomy and become a trusted partner to both finance and operational leaders.
Responsibilities
• Process weekly and monthly payroll for a workforce of 300+ employees
• Manage overtime, allowances, shift penalties, deductions and payroll adjustments
• Review and validate timesheets, attendance records and leave applications
• Process new starters, terminations, pay increases and employee changes
• Maintain employee payroll records and payroll master data
• Prepare and lodge payroll tax, PAYG withholding, superannuation and statutory obligations
• Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements
• Complete payroll reconciliations and month-end payroll activities
• Prepare payroll reporting, labour cost reporting and headcount reporting
• Assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews
• Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and management
• Ensure ongoing compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements and relevant legislation
Candidate Profile
You are an experienced Payroll Officer who has previously held responsibility for a standalone payroll function. This experience is essential. You are comfortable working independently, making decisions, managing competing priorities and taking full ownership of payroll outcomes. Your technical payroll knowledge is strong and you have a thorough understanding of payroll legislation, payroll tax, superannuation and compliance reporting requirements.
You will ideally come from a manufacturing environment or have worked within a blue-collar organisation where overtime, allowances, shift penalties and complex timesheets form part of day-to-day payroll processing. Experience interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements will be highly regarded, along with strong Excel capability and exposure to payrolls of 300+ employees. Experience with MYOB PayGlobal would be advantageous.
