Job Summary
The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator assists in center development, manages the accreditation process and ensures continuous compliance with MBSQUIP requirements, maintains relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety. The MBS Coordinator serves as liaison between the surgery center and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.Essential Functions

Assists and works directly with the MBS Director.
Serves a liaison between the center and the MSBAQIP (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program).
Administers the MBS Committee and must attend at least two of the three required meetings, one of which must be the annual comprehensive review meeting, as well as the majority of all other meetings.
Assists in program development, manages the accreditation process and ensures continuous compliance with MBSQUIP standards, maintains relevant pathways and protocols, patient education, monitoring outcomes data and collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety.
Supports the development of written protocols and education of nursing staff detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical patient findings that are specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.
Serves as liaison between the faculty and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists at the center and any general surgeons providing call coverage.
Assists in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons, as well as providing access to the call schedule to all departments of the facility that provide care for metabolic and bariatric patients.
Attends and actively participates in each MBSAQIP site visit for their current center(s).
Manages accreditation criteria to ensure that the center meets expectations set forth by governing agencies. Maintains and ensures compliance of all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services. These include, but are not limited to Joint Commission requirements, federal and state regulations, MBSAQIP standards, regulatory standards, etc.
Collaborates on an ongoing basis with the MBS Director, clinical staff and physicians, promoting positive communication and the ability to problem solve at every level.
Works with MBS Director to anticipate and identify the needs of the center and creatively implement solutions to problems. Integrates evidence-based practice into programmatic improvements.
Stays updated on quality improvement project goals that support patient outcomes and their association with coordination of care and how to implement/update evidence-based practices into the existing facility framework in alignment with the MBS Director/MBS Committee.
Contributes to and supports bariatric program staff and educators through planning, implementing, and evaluating educational efforts and learning methods.
Actively participates/coordinates committees, task forces, and work groups as needed/requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report directly to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degree in Healthcare related field of study
Experience - Two (2) years of related experience. Clinical experience with Bariatric Surgery patients preferred.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Licensed or registered healthcare professional – including, but not limited to Registered Nurse, Registered Dietician, Advanced Practice Clinician. Licensure or registration must be current and issued by the state in which work is performed or registered healthcare provider.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the quality improvement project goals that support patient outcomes and their association with coordination of care.
Knowledge of how to implement/update evidence-based practices into the existing facility framework in alignment with the MBS Director/MBS Committee.
Knowledge of office equipment
Proficient computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets)
