The ideal candidate possesses advanced technical expertise in coverage analysis, liability assessment, reserve management, litigation strategy, and claim resolution. Working independently and exercising a high degree of judgment, the Complex Claims Director partners closely with insureds, brokers, underwriters, defense counsel, and senior business leaders to develop effective claim strategies, mitigate risk, and achieve timely, cost-effective outcomes. This role serves as a technical leader within the claims organization and is expected to provide insight, guidance, and strategic direction on high-profile and complex matters.

What you need to know:

As a Claims Specialist III, you will manage and investigate moderate-complexity general liability and trucking liability claims, including litigated bodily injury and property damage exposures. This role is responsible for delivering timely, fair, and cost-effective claim resolutions while ensuring compliance with company standards, industry best practices, and client service expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate, and manage general liability, commercial auto, and trucking claims, including bodily injury, property damage, and litigation-related exposures.
  • Conduct timely and thorough investigations, including analysis of accident reports, witness statements, police reports, medical records, driver qualification files,
  • Develop and execute strategic action plans designed to achieve prompt and cost-effective claim resolution.
  • Coordinate and direct independent adjusters, accident reconstruction experts, and other vendors while effectively managing expenses.
  • Analyze policy coverage and identify coverage concerns involving commercial auto, trucking, and general liability exposures; prepare coverage position letters and collaborate with coverage counsel as needed.
  • Evaluate liability, damages, and litigation risk, including comparative negligence and exposure analysis for transportation-related losses.
  • Partner with defense counsel to develop litigation strategies, monitor case progress, and drive favorable outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely claim documentation, including clear analysis of coverage, liability, damages, reserves, and resolution strategies.
  • Manage claim diaries and meet all service, compliance, and reporting requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of General Liability, Commercial Auto, or Trucking Liability claims experience, including litigated bodily injury claims.
  • Experience handling transportation, commercial trucking, fleet, or motor carrier claims, including moderate-to-severe injury exposures.
  • Working knowledge of trucking and transportation regulations, including familiarity with FMCSA requirements a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate liability, damages, and complex coverage scenarios and negotiate effective claim resolutions.
  • Strong litigation management skills and experience working with defense counsel, experts, and other claim professionals.
  • Effective decision-making and analytical skills, with the ability to assess exposure and establish appropriate reserves.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively in a flexible work environment.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to leverage technology and data to improve claim outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and relationship-management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Multi State licensing a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required multi-state adjuster licenses within six months of hire.
